Do you still have gallon of soda? I remember seeing soda by the gallon in the 80s. Now, the biggest bottle I see in Canada is 2L.
...i don't buy soft drinks but i feel like two-liter bottles were supplanted by three-liter bottles in the 2000s as the new standard size...
Biggest I've seen is a 3L bottle of Faygo but I think that's a upper Midwest regional brand and come to think of it I haven't seen one in years.
I've seen cheaper brands sold in bottles larger than 2L. (PA, US)
As a fat person, 300lb+ lbs, i think its fine to call us out and make fun of us. Mostly we either dont give a shit and will do what we want, or might just be on the verge of change and 1 more person calling us out could jumpdrive our selfrespct enough in order to make a difference.
I appreciate that. Personally, the photo kicks my sense of empathy into overdrive instead.
I don't see two targets of ridicule. I see two cases of metabolic syndrome, with type II and heart attacks waiting to destroy their bodies, and over 6000 calories of raw sugar in tow on wheels, because they're too weak to carry their snack around. And they likely got there from self-medicating with food for what's likely trauma, depression, and/or other mental illness. They need a rescue party.
Big Gulps, huh? Alright!
Well, see ya later!
Is this picture taken by a satellite?
Queue al bundy jokes
I dragged 15kg of peelaway in a trolley home from the local paint store last week. Fuck hand carrying that shit 4km.
Holy shit there's a lot of angry fat American people in the comments.
No-one is mocking them being fat. We're mocking America for having such a shit culture and food regulation that lots of people end up with this problem.
It's not funny to mock a specific hungry kid, but you can make jokes about famine.
You shouldn't trigger someone's personal traumas of rape, but comedians can joke about sexual assault.
I think blurring their faces would've made this less a joke and more shaming. So idk what the issue is.
Hey not cool. Don't ever call me an American.
I mean, I apologise if it came off like that. I didn't exclude the chance of angry fat non-American people though, but that's kinda on you (and the other comments that may actually joke about fat people, not just you) , since I think we're making fun of America, not obesity.
Holy shit this comment section is a train wreck.
Train wrecks? Those things America has a lot of nowadays that all safety regulation is being deleted as we speak?
Uh, I hear ya, buddy.
what's a big gulp
Which word is giving you trouble? Gulp or Big?
the fact that whatever the fuck is in the picture looks nothing like a drink would look in a normal country, you smug dick.
It's a depth-charge sized drink made by the 7-11 convenience store chain in the US. The biggest Big Gulp is the 128oz (or 3.5 liters).
It's just what you need if you're planning to hike through Death Valley or walk on the surface of the Sun.
I knew a guy who rigged one up with a cooling system, he only needed to get new water every couple days. I aspire for such laziness. Mind you I am the type of lazy that caused me to go into severe pain yesterday because I hadn't eaten more than one meal a day at most for like a week, I don't have an eating disorder I am just very good at procrastinating.
An obscenely large soda from 7-eleven. The cups in the image aren't Big Gulps technically, but they are very large drink containers, and OP is using the term Big Gulp loosely
I was hoping it was going to be this video.
A very large enclosed cup to hold liquids.
At least they are outside.
Nobody wants to be in that shape, nor to be photographed and mocked online like this.
My heart goes out to those folks, and I sincerely hope they can find the help they need to turn around their unhealthy lifestyles.
Speaking as a disgusting fat bastard myself, feel free to criticise and mock me as much as you want.
Maybe it'll finally motivate me to do something about it.
Self hate is approximately as good a motivator as ridicule, ie a negative one.
Depression or whatever the damage is isn't solved with more trauma.
To start climbing out of your hole your first step is forgiving yourself for not being perfect.
Right, that'll work.
You'll probably make more progress when you learn to accept and respect yourself. Losing a lot of weight is extraordinarily difficult and it'll take as long or longer than the amount of time it took to put it on. You'll have regressions and make mistakes. Your key will be neck breakingly slow but constant progress and being gentle on yourself, plus being surrounded by supportive people. I'm sorry you feel that you're disgusting but I don't.
My mom lost 70 pounds and then gained back 20 in the last 5 years. That's less than a pound per month, a 100 calorie deficit. She still eats a lot but I think that's what makes her successful. She has a long way to go but I never forget to tell her she's kicking ass because she is. You'd tell her that too. Now tell yourself.
My heart goes out for them too since their own is probably about to stop
Also, they don't need to justify shit and nobody wants your pity. Whether you criticize or pity them, you're disrespecting their autonomy, and your values don't align with the reality in front of you. That's a you problem.
These are severely ill people who will die prematurely even if they get the help that they need. Do you walk up to cancer patients and go: "oh you are so beautiful just the way you are, never change"?
Lol no. There's a point of derision. You can't act like something this absurd is a functional reality in their head. At some point we have to say "stop it" and that point was way before it got to using handcarts for diabetes juice.
Edit: and that's before considering that their poor choices lead to higher insurance rates for people with self control.
wow these replies are landmines so i will just be confused about how you even get a picture from that angle. the place doesn't look urban or like it would have any high-rises, and the USA (assuming this is it) also doesn't really do tall parking garages. and it very much looks like the photo was taken from outside.
Taken from the driver's seat of a new pickup truck?
Drone in a parking lot, I'd say.
wow that answer is very easy, I didn't consider a drone at all. thank you.
Google maps big zoom mode
Imma be real, those things full of ice and water are godly on a hot day
A camelback is cheaper, less pathetic, and much more likely to have water in it than coke. This isn't normal or ok for humanity.
Water? Like in the Toilette?
Camelbacks taste funny, and I suspect they leech into the water. (Thus why they taste funny)
Just needs some 1/4" plastic tubing to make some extra long straws
IN USA BIG GULPS YOU!!
Diabeetus trolley
I've said for years that knife party needs to use that diabetes sound clip to make a dope ass song.
Y’all make fun of these folks. However they are living their life but adding walking into it.
We as a society should not be putting down those trying to better themselves. They are clearly working towards something.
The bar is really low when we praise people for walking
No praise, just saying don’t be a dick. Not the same but I get your point.
That depends if it is their first steps ever, if they had a bad accident, or major surgery.
I applaud your positivity, but those two are more likely to just walk to their car right now than walking for walkings sake.
You're judging them. They're minding their business. And implying moral failure for how they treat themselves. This is very much your problem. Nothing to do with them.
Walking is a normal thing that every able-bodied person should be doing plenty of every day - assuming that this basic act must be "trying to better themselves" is condescending and infantilizing IMO.
The calories burned walking are completely offset by those consumed from the beverages. Walking in this case is probably pointless.
And likely the walking wasn't a choice. This is disgusting.
Calm down, it is a diet coke.
I would bet my right nut there's soda in those cups barrels.
alcohol
We see ourselves in other people. Part of being a social animal. Fat shaming, racism, this bipartisan shit are all results of the fact that externalizing your insecurities, shame, fear is easier than self excavation. For anyone reading this, when you feel the need to judge, dig into that feeling, whether you're mad at immigrants or oligarchs, that same feeling is actively, surgically explored to wield power over you. To make you procrastinate. To say the good old days, the time of real change, your ideal self is just around the corner. We're so close. Just you wait for the next election. The next scandal. The next death.
fatphobia isnt a thing my friend,
dunno why you're getting downvoted. people act like others being mean to them is just as bad as having their rights stripped away, being beaten and killed for things you can't control.
Ah, I see my uber eats is en route
Oh are we reviving r/fatpeoplehate? I thought we were trying to be better than reddit.
If that's going to be a thing can we get a c/hoarders too?
It wasn't a request.
I am glad I dont have to be the only one losing their shit over this. endless wrath upon OP
I mean I took a weight loss class and currently on weight loss medication. So why can’t I post this?
because people don't like being reminded that their actions have consequences 🙄
Gross
This is why I laugh when people try to paint Lemmy as the more nuanced and broad-minded alternative to Reddit.
I sincerely doubt any one of you needledick motherfuckers would spit shit like this to their faces.
If anything, Lemmy is annoying because of the holier than thou attitude that people like you are showing.
Kinda funny how you try to ridicule people's penises in the very next sentence. Double standards much?
This response amounts to a more verbose "no u".
If upsetting hateful assholes like you constitutes a "holier than thou" attitude on my part then I wear that distinction as a badge of fucking honor.
Oh, I'm sorry. Did I hit too close to home with that sobriquet?
If I didn't know a lost cause when I see one, I'd recommend them to seek out a mental health professional. These are sick people who will suffer and die an horrific death by their own hand at an early age.
Yeah, first 24hrs I was hopeful this social media platform was above Reddit. It felt like this one was more supportive of peoples right to expression. Now, I see it is just the same/similar to Reddit. Oh, well. At least I know what I am dealing with now.
You're the poster stupid
At least Spez isn't here. And for that reason alone I prefer Lemmy to reddit.
You're a piece of shit.
Sincerely someone with a 5m/m.
