Well, considering they cut the shoe up to get the thing out, I probably would have just gone barefoot, or wore something else, waiting until the thing left on its own. Not that it can't be repaired, but it can't be repaired as well as it was because the cuts were messy.

At that point, you're fucking up the fit and comfort.
