If you look at the image of the menu in the article, most of the stuff costs far less than that. It's a bit deceptive to mention it the way they did.

- It's likely more down to social cohesion. Smaller villages all know each other (or at least passingly aware). They also don't have a huge pool of workers to draw upon.
  If all your staff agree it's an issue, then finding replacement staff won't be trivial. Also, a large chunk of your customer base likely agrees. Finally, a small pub is unlikely to be run by a big shot CEO. They will have a lot more empathy than the average middle manager.
- You don't risk losing your job because your boss isn't an immoral shill for some capitalist corporation, so he's actually in on the protest and thus won't fire you.

- No. The "benefits system" or "safety net" or whatever is really quite basic and not fit for supporting a modern family, contrary to what the Daily Fail would have people believe. Losing a job is devastating financially and emotionally, as it would be elsewhere. The main positive is healthcare is still free regardless of whether you're drawing a giro or £250k a year.
  It still takes massive balls to stand together like that and fuck him off. Good effort.
