Sinking my teeth into Metroid having never played through it before, what series are you looking into starting?

I just started playing the legend of Zelda. I’m gonna make my way through those games, because, back in the 80s as a kid, they were fucking impossible. I’m determined to beat them now.
Also on this “they were impossible when I was a kid, but I’m gonna beat them now” list are the Metroid games and the megaman games.
The only reason I was able to beat Zelda as a kid was the map that came with the game and some Nintendo power guides. A lot of those games would get you lost or hide some pathway behind something stupid. Zelda I remember getting stuck in one of the later dungeons because I didn't realize that when the monster blocking my path said "grumble grumble" he wanted my meat 🍖.
The Metroid map was hard to follow. I only beat that with the Justin Bailey code. It was easier to run around with the power ups. Castlevania was fucking impossible with the crystal orbs and kneeling for a tornado to warp you. MegaMan is pretty unforgiving in some spots, but you can memorize parts of the board, kinda like ninja gaiden.
I wish you good fortune in the wars to come. I went back to beat Mike Tyson's Punch out as an adult, and the only reason I beat that was playing on an emulator and saving the game after each successful dodge/hit I got. That like banging my head into a wall.
Yeah, my little brother was the Nintendo wizard back in the day. He had all the Nintendo power guides and all the other gaming magazines in order to get even the tiniest hint of a code. I remember that, when he was playing, legend of Zelda, it was a friend at school, who told him where our level eight was, and that the entrance was hidden in some random place under a bush.
I just loaded about 11 GB of classic video game ROMs onto my Apple TV, and I think I’m just getting started. Have fun!
As an adult, megaman has been slaying me for a decade now.
Must.try.again
Honestly, I’m a bit afraid of it. I haven’t even tried to play it again yet, because I’m trying to warn myself up on some other games first, lol.
I've never played that either, but I love Metroidvanias so I assume it's great.
I picked up the Mass Effect trilogy recently following a tip from here (I think).
I think if you like Metroidvanias, it stands to reason that you'd like Metroid and Castlevania!
I started playing the Legendary edition of the trilogy but never ended up finishing it. The first game for sure hasn't aged very well IMO.
I think they're referring to zero mission. I've not heard of that one myself until now.
It may not be as retro but I was gifted Yakuza Like a Dragon a year or so ago and so I've been playing though all the games. I'm currently on 4.
I'll probably make it to LAD when the Kiwami version comes out at this rate.
Been in talks to run Star Ocean along with a friend so we could compare notes and talk about stuff. Hard to decide between the OG and the PSP remake, though.
Also kudos to starting Metroid, there's so few misses in that series.
Finished RE:1 a while back, I'd like to play the rest! Or at least, most of them. Silksong has my major interest now though!
Someday I'll get to Ys and Romancing Saga, heard they apparently have "actually good JRPG gameplay".
Someday. Not today.
