What is a business going to do, eat the cost of the tariff until the company goes bankrupt? That’s stupid.
I see any business as having only two real options for continued operations:
Roll the tariff into the overall price
Explicitly add the tariff as a separate line item, like shipping. And make it VISIBLE, beside everywhere the price is, along with a net, pre-shipping total.
At least the second highlights how Trump is hurting the average American. Pick one and move forward.
Have the day you voted for!
The visible part may not be easy to calculate for the final sale. If you are drop shipping or just reselling a product from say India it may be easier, but when you buy a bicycle for your kid at Christmas, I assume if it was assembled in the U.S., the steel might be from the U.S. in the frame, the aluminum for the wheels might be from Canada. The rubber for the tires and handlebar grips might be imported from Thailand/China or what not. The brake pads might come from the U.S., U.K, Japan, Germany, Spain... Or who knows. It is a hodgepodge of different tariffs being thrown together and adding a little here and a little there.
Oh, they know.
They just tack on an extra 30% or whatever, because as uncertain as tariffs might make things, they absolutely make for a great excuse to fuck the poors.
