When a Roman mosaic was discovered in modern-day Turkey, it was found to be so well made that it preserved the wave of an earthquake without breaking the pattern.

I'd say it was small enough that the quake didn't have any effect on the pebbles. if those were bricks they would have cracked. still amazing regardless

- Agreed. I'm sure that the ground conditions in Turkey are different, but this would look like the result of frost heaves around here. Just the topsoil shifting and settling differently over time.

Back when shit was made to last. I feel like anything built in the last 100 years will be long gone before the next hundred is up.

  Sure. Not like the pyramids and the aqueducts are still standing or anything. I get what you are saying, but also, quality has dropped in so many areas in the name of cheaper and faster.
