I’m kinda surprised, a lot of what phone users do are simple in regards to how a smartphone is used. I’m a simpleton, a few apps, text and call or video call if needed. That’s it.
“You can’t program your phone and sideload custom built apps!”
“Do you do that?”
“Well, no…but I could!”
I think more open phones should be the norm whether or not we’re using the function that much but also I agree that I really just don’t need to run some crazy shit off it, either. I even spend probably too much time with my phone and still don’t get it!
Open sourcing video call would be possible positive. Yes that’s a double edge sword, but I’d much rather not have to use a dedicated app just for one thing.
Hot Take: text and call (including video) should be on open source protocols
Though my phone has run sailfish for nearly a year now, I'm not sure my next phone will - SFOS is very good in a lot of ways but its not open source, so its progress at getting better is very slow due to the small team that works on it

I sideload all my apps because the Google play store is not on my phone.
It has to run Genshin Impact natively or else!
