People in NYC holding banners during a CEO Event at Ziegfeld Ballroom
  • Can you explain to me in a non condescending way what this comment means? Like genuinely I'm not even sure what you're trying to say here. A person on the internet posts a link to a website to buy a silly sticker and that is somehow political tribalism? Consumerism is somewhat arguably understandable, considering you have to be a consumer to make a purchase. Although you could always just steal the design and print your own. What makes the post political tribalism though? Is there some sort of echo chamber in the fact that 99.99% of the American population would rather see exploitative CEOs die rather than their own children? Is that an unrealistic platform? What details am I missing here?

Well, I guess that settles it
  • My name comes from an ethnic background but I dont look ethnic so I always get weird Looks at doctors offices because of it. I think its pretty funny but I guess some people dont find it as funny to be "profiled" so to speak. It really depends on the culture you grew up in and how high tolerance actually was for that sort of thing in your life, at least thats my two cents. I dont mind it but others might.

Motorola phones face US market ban owing to patent dispute
  • there goes the entirety of people who are too poor to afford iphones choices...

(I know there are other options, but genuinely, when I'm out and about I hear that Motorola jingle more than the iPhone's notification or Samsung's spaceline)

  • Its more reply 1 not telling you how to provide the information. If it wasn't provided theres a good chance you dont know how to, and them being condescending about it doesnt help

  • As far as I am aware, most of them aren't directly transmitting data back to the manufacturer, but the data is stored on the car so if you ever have it worked on the dealership can just pull that shit without consent. I could be wrong though, maybe there are cars now that are doing that. I do know that a a lot of cars are taking the iPhone route of having "encrypted" parts, where if one is missing or replaced, the car just won't work.

  • I believe it is making light of the fact that this is the direction we are heading in as a society. See the recent ford patent that listens to you while you are driving to serve ads over your stereo, the $800 child's toy that will now be nothing but e-waste, BMW having you "subscribe" to your heated seats, or a more relavent to this conic example, the thousands if not millions of new "smart" devices that now require an app to perform functions that older technology could perform without needing a smartphone.

  • I wish. I really do. I want it so badly. My TV upgrades over the past 4 years have all been thrift store finds because I refuse to be forced to buy a device that WILL be obsolete one day.

  • Find me a new car in 2024 that doesnt store every GPS coordinate you've driven at for eternity. Genuinely, I'd like to see the non-garbage option because my '04 is getting old.

  • As long as they can convince their shareholders this will eventually make money and you buy into their eventual $30/flush subscription they won't have to go out of business

  • Hello Lemmy. Discord locked me out of my account and wants me to verify using my phone number. Issue being, I gave them this phone number over 4 years ago and I took it off of my account at least 2 years ago and never added a 2nd. The reason I can't verify that number is because it was a burner phone. What do I do, or am I completely fucked?
