I don’t smoke anymore, but when I did a lot of these types of bans came into effect, and even as a smoker I really came to appreciate it. When I did finally quit, it was nice to not have to deal with smoke everywhere.
I still think it's stupid to ban designated outdoor smoking areas at a fucking bar
I had the same reaction as a smoker. It’s really not all bad, and as a now non-smoker, it’s great to not wake up the next day to the clothes I wore to the bar smelling like an ashtray, so I now understand the complaints.
And it saves you, the smoker, money because you’re not chain smoking sitting at the bar anymore.
At the end of the day, though, a beer drinker sitting next to a wine drinker is a bit different than a smoker sitting next to a non-smoker, so the whole “you’re already at a bar!” argument is pretty disingenuous and doesn’t really go far with me.
I can agree with this, it’s really nice to be able to go to a local brewery and vape locally grown pot on the patio legally.
Tbh I thought it already was banned in stadiums. Seems booze is - strange experience going to see Barca play, being surrounded by Estrella ads but not able to buy the stuff
If you're outside, it's ok to smoke.
If people who are outside have a problem with smoke, they can go inside or move over a bit.
Smoking outside is not harmful to others, it's just kind of annoying for people who get annoyed by it.
It's dumb not to leave this up to the venue, unless we want to start policing other annoying public behavior like talking on your cell, or chewing food with your mouth, bringing your kids out, etc..
Smoking outside next to people still leads to second hand smoke. Not as harmful as it were inside, but still harmful.
What do I do when every other person is smoking in the area? Should only smokers be allowed the best seats outdoors, and everyone else has to put up with them or leave?
And yes, we should be policing other disruptive behaviors in public spaces, like loud conversations, screaming children, etc.
Society still picks up the bill through social security though… even just for yourself…
And soon, no drinking and no talking!
Those dont harm the physical health of people around you... Pretty simple logic there. Thats why smoking in restaurants and such, where this is even more problematic, has been banned for many years now.
What's next? A license to use my own damn toaster?
I can hear this comment.
I live in Spain. I think the idea comes because in a ideal world, there should be outdoor smoker areas and outdoor non-smoker areas. But reality is that bars only have one outdoor area shared by everyone. So if someone don’t want to be bothered by smoke, they can’t use the outdoor area and enjoy the sun of Spain. So at the end, they do this 🤷♂️
