It's a fantasy console, a console that has its specifications to achieve the old-style programs on it but isn't limited to run on certain hardware.
Also, games for it are written in a high level language (Lua) which makes it significantly easier to get into than actual old hardware.
Sounds very niche.
I had never heard of it either, but their website does a pretty good job of explaining it.
I recently discovered what this is on my handheld and there are come really fun games. I've been playing Celeste Classic today and another that was an Outrun-esque that I forget the name of.
To anyone liking these kind of fantasy consoles I always recommend TIC-80 as it is a open source alternative. Feature full. And overall more powerful.
TIC is fun too. I like both. And they both work on the miyoo mini plus as a handheld.
Totally forgot I made a turn-based rpg game based on battle royale using Pico 8 a while ago. Might have to dig that out
