The Russian's have been doing this since at least WW2 (where it was common). Not surprising in the least.

  Ahem, awkctually shooting deserters is a gewd thing, because it teaches the liberal media to stay in line, therefore helping communism strive by giving the totally not authoritarian AI implants in Putin dopamine and thats a good thing.
