Explanation: In the century after Islam was established, the Iberian peninsula was almost entirely conquered by Muslim forces. There were some hardy mountain folk up north who the Muslim rulers of Al-Andalus figured it wasn't worth the trouble of trudging up the rocks and beating down, but they'll never amount to anything, so it'll all be fine in the end!

The Reconquista was heavily helped by the Danes that went on to settle primarily in Galicia. To this day, a synonym for blonde in some Portuguese speaking communities is galego, the toponym of Galicia.
If I'm getting it right, wouldn't Portugal and by extension, Brazil and the Brazilian diaspora also be a consequence of it? 😬
