Is Holland no longer a thing? We're only allowed to call it "The Netherlands" now?

Holland is such a pretty word, evoking imagery of tulips & wooden klompen shoes & windmills. Why aren't we allowed to say "Holland" anymore?

There is also a lot of history in terms of the different countries in that region forming out of Flanders. Tangentially related but quite interesting if you get into the history of the Hanseatic League and such.
Holland's one province, only about 20% of the Netherlands is Holland
- PS, I'm wrong, it's two provinces, North Holland and South Holland

It's like calling America "New York".

You say Holland when you don't want people to assume you are going on a drugs and hookers holiday.
