That logo/mascot just turns me off. I know it's silly and shouldn't matter but my instincts tell me to run when I see it. Shame too, seems like a neat service.
- Very much a FOSS hand drawn logo vibe, where the creator has…questionable art skills because they are primarily a programmer.
- Saw a post where the owner was removing posts and comments he didn't agree with, and when called out he basically said he didn't care and would do what he wanted. I decided then that I didn't want to be a part of whatever bubble he was creating for himself.
- It looks like a shitty knock off of wakfu.
- Weird ass name too.

Tech should be made more accesible. Having the fediverse is nice and all, but if someone was to ask me "i don't like reddit, what do you recommend?" I can't even introduce them to how lemmy instances work without some eyebrows being raised let alone the whole concept of the fediverse.

I tell the normies "It's like Reddit, but anyone can make a website that runs it, and all the websites talk to each other so a corporation can never control it" and the normies say that sounds awesome
it feels like the best way to introduce them to lemmy is simply giving them an instance. No explaining just: here, that one has a funny name. take it and be happy

- No but it really doesn't. It's just a bit more complicated to get your head around it then just registering to reddit. That raises walls. People don't like to jump over walls. We should make it simpler in some way, or it won't ever grow.
I agree and a lot of the fediverse does a terrible job at it BUT i wish people would just understand tech a bit better.
It’s ridiculous to me how much time some people spend online / on their phone without understanding as much as what a URL is or how to change basic settings. There should really be better education around technology.
Let alone the issue that moderation remain troubling, even on the fediverse. I ended up having two different accounts because some things I follow are blocked by servers where there are other things I follow, who blocks the previous ones.
So much for openness. If the only solution is to spawn my own instance to get something workable, there's no way this will take off with the general public.

What's the drama?

Short version:

So it got public (or something) that a larger personality did go after a trans person and the bsky moderation team looked over it and decided to change the tos for them instead of a ban what would be appropriate as they threatened another user.
And like the entire black/trans/ally community got pissed and some part of them are now seeking new "lands"
About the Waffles: Charlie Kirk liked them so a lot of people wanting to align with him are posting a bunch of waffle pictures in solidarity

- The waffles thing is because Jesse Singal keeps referencing a tweet that says something to the effect of "people take someone saying 'I like pancakes' to mean 'I hate waffles'", which, yeah, if you're saying "I like straight white Christian men" you're probably saying you hate at least some other groups but anyway that's where the dog whistle came from.
- Why does kiwifarms seem to come up lately in places I would not expect. It seems like people who become victims of their harassment have actively engaged with them at some point, and continue to feed them rather than ignore them. Which leads to things getting worse, and eventually things like death threats.
Something to do with waffles, I can't make sense of it.

I initially is discovered Wafrn from a linked Lemmy post, so seeing a Wafrn screenshot intended to spread Wafrn propaganda on Lemmy is so ironic to me.

For me its mainly more comfy than Mastodon but i am still testing it out
