To quote someone who put it far better than I could ever have.
See, getting a compliment from someone of the same sex is like getting a huge bag of money from a foreign country. You can't use it in your day to day life. You don't even consider ever visiting it. But sure is a good thing to know that if you ever go there, you'll be a highly prized individual.
Getting a compliment is always good.

I am just happy to know when someone finds me attractive, straight, gay or other.
- That surprised me the first time I (cishet, a teenager at the time) was hit on by another guy. I was flattered much more than I was weirded out. I wouldn’t have expected that reaction.

  It hadn't occurred to me until then what a minefield the single bar scene must be for a gay person, and of course right on the heels of that, my sudden understanding of why gay bars were such a big thing.

I'd warn any galpals I've got to stay away from this guy who just admitted he thinks it's normal for men to automatically begin harassing people of the gender(s) they are attracted to.

Depends on the situation of course, but I’d likely not be able to tell I was being hit on to begin with.
