[30 Day Song Challenge: Alternative Edition] Day 1: An Alternative Song You Like With A Color In The Title
Let's do the 30 Day Song Challenge, alternative music styles! Each day I'll post the challenge and you share some of your favorite songs that meet the challenge!
Sorry if these aren't "alternative" still trying to figure out what that really means but I'm not sure I'd call any of these inside the modern mainsteam.
Pink moon, pink and white, and yellow Ledbetter are all songs I love on various playlists of mine. I'll have to give the other songs you suggested a listen!
Does psy trance count as alternative? Infected Mushroom - Pink Nightmares (E: link to the better, extended version I thought I'd linked in the first place)
Not sure it this really qualifies as alternative? But I've recently been enjoying Ilsey's Heart of Gold cover. Nice to see more collabs of her and Justin Vernon.
Link to the Spotify Playlist. Depends what you define as alternative! Here's what I found in my Spotify likes that one could argue are alternative (I've starred are my top faves):
⭐ Black - Pearl Jam (please listen to the MTV unplugged version if you haven't yet)
Blackest Bile - Giles Corey
⭐ Blackberry Stone - Laura Marley
Black Swan - Thom Yorke
⭐ Black Car - Beach House
Black Cadillacs - Modest Mouse
Blackout - Muse
Black Rain - Soundgarden
⭐ Black Star - Radiohead
Waving A White Flag - The Smile
White Cyclosa - Boards of Canada
Red Right Hand - Arctic Monkeys
Ruby - Tweaker, Will Oldham (a bit of a weird one)
⭐ Ruby Pool - VOLA (alternative rock electronic stuff what genre even is this???)
⭐ Cherry-coloured Funk - Cocteau Twins
Cherry - Chromatics
Pink Funeral - Beach House
Pink Moon - Nick Drake
⭐ Peach Pit - Peach Pit
⭐ Tangerine - Frank Sativa
Amber - 311
Gold Guns Girls - Metric
I Love You Golden Blue - Sonic Youth
⭐ Green Green Grass Of Tunnel - múm
⭐ Turquoise Hexagon Sun - Boards of Canada
Some stuff I can't say is alternative but I love enough to mention:
Big Black Car - Gregory Alan Isakov (Folk)
Black Leaf - John Paul White (that's a twofer! Folk)
Black Sands - Bonobo (downtempo electronic? I dunno)
Red Summer - Thornhill (metalcore)
Vermilion, pt. 2 - Slipknot (this is acoustic, not what you might think as slipknot)
Flamingo - Kero Kero Bonito (don't judge)
Bright as Yellow - The Innocence Mission (indie folk)
Aquamarine - The Afterimage (metalcore, this song very much not metal though)
Blue Ridge Mountains - Fleet Foxes (indie folk)
Gosh I knew I was missing something. I have a lot of songs missing in my liked songs on Spotify because I'll add them to my playlists but forget to like them. I'll try to remember to add it, thanks!
quite interested to know if you can get a good full rainbow going:
r - red sky - pere ubu
o - the orange county lumber truck - mothers of invention
y - yellow country teeth - cyhasy
g - buckingham green - ween
b - blue boy - orange juice (double points?)
i - indigo - moloko
v - violet - hole
finish off with the rainbow by talk talk for good measure
might also sneak pink glove by pulp in just before red.
I'm keeping with my first choice, but it might be interesting to to pick a colour.
(blue is illegal, black/white is also too common and not proper colours )
here's some more red - so i might stick with red overall:
blood red bird - smog
murder in the red barn - tom waits
my lips are red - st vincent
brick is red - pixies
my left red eye - worm is green
red sky - acoustic ladyland
if acoustic ladyland is permissable, then i might get away with:
red clay - soil and pimp sessions
