I binged my way through BEEF with Steven Yuen and Ali Wong. Amazing dark comedy - peak performances from Yuen and Wong. I was only aware of Ali Wong's comedy specials and had no idea she had such good acting range. Recommend this show if you're low commitment (only 1 season, 10 episodes), like Coen Brothers movies (dark comedies, subverted genres), and/or an appreciation for asian-themed comedy.
I was really on the fence about canx'ing my Netflix but this gave them a short reprieve. Now I might need to see what other stuff they have on before I pull the plug.
Finished BBC mini series call the sixth commandment which was good. Also finished City on Fire and overall I enjoyed it.
Just watched the first EP of Pokerface which was a good fun watch. Great writing and cast.
Ongoing, I have Joe Pickett S02, S10 of Alone, Last Call: Queer serial killer, Madoff: Monster of wall street, nearly half through Fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood and trying to finish last 2 EPs of S02 of From.
The Gallows Pole: This Valley Will Rise - or Shane 'This is England' Meadows does costume drama. The credits are straight from Britannia and it teeters on the edge of farce at times but is definitely entertaining - at least as of the first episode, with the scene between Socha and McShera on the steps being the heart of it.
The Other Two! A great comedy about a family where the youngest brother gets famous. Seasons one and two were good and three was great. Sadly the show ended there, but it ended well.
The writing and cast are great, though for me, the daughter Brooke (Helene York) stole the show. I’m definitely going to see what else she’s been in since her physical comedy and delivery are top notch.
I just finished S2 of Mr. Robot. I know it's an old show but I missed it the first time around. What a trip, the entire season I was trying to guess who was real and who was in his head, then the reveal... very cool. Reminds me of a Chuck Palahniuk story.
