I was supposed to add this paragraph to my reply to the Ever Gotesco post, but I decided to cut it out and put it somewhere else, here:
I am not one to glorify mall culture here, but I hope if they (the struggling Ever malls) do end up being abandoned, someone can just turn them into quasi-social spaces where people can hang out without spending money. Heck, tying it back to my rants about public transport, why not someone can turn those dying malls into transportation hubs with a quasi-social space on top? If we're going to be transferring from one transport mode to another anyways, why not have a spot to rest na rin? Lalo na kung mejo mahaba ang pila sa jeep na kailangan mong sakyan pauwi.
It's one tactic that SM Malls use in their favor, and other malls struggle to replicate (basically since SM malls force themselves to be the area's hub--looking at you, MoA). But in certain areas kasi, it's other malls who have the hub (Sta Lucia grand east, for example, or possibly Ever Ortigas). So yeah! It'd take a lot of money though, as you'd have to buy up that land, in a good location, and to recoup that money, well, you'd better maximize the area's commercial potential (kinda the MO of SMDC, I think). IDK, I'm rambling here, sorry.
Yeah, actually. And kung talagang gusto nila, I guess they can use eminent domain? Not sure how that'd fare against mall owners and operators, lalo na Robinson's, SM and Ayala.
I actually like how Ayala did the garden area around Greenbelt chapel.
One thing I disliked about reddit is how controversial topics tend to get highly upvoted knee-jerk reactions. They're often low effort and tend to get traction by virtue of being one of early replies to the topic.
It's not as bad here, but that's probably because of fewer users compared to the other site.
Yep, seems to be a reaction to a post from a person that's now banned. I read through the thread where the block was announced and it kinda makes sense for me now since delikado nga.
I actually follow the piracy community, so it would have been a loss for me if my account was on .world, I would personally prefer an instance that is federated with most others or else there would only be a circlejerk of the same echo chambers in my feed. It's still good to have those dissenting opinions and various resources on hand. That being said, the beauty of having numerous instances is that you can just hop on another one if too many other instances or communities in your particular instance get blocked/defederated.
Has any of you heard of that Royal Institute whatsits? That funny picture of Arroyo and Quiboloy in crowns and purple garbs? That something that looks and sounds and is most likely some type of scam? I think I might've come across something similar.
I've been in the rabbit hole of this person who claims to be a royalty of Calabarzon and the Sultanate of Maguindanao. They have photos posted on their Facebook page posing with alleged world leaders—some non-existent Emirati sheikh, former president of Kosovo, etc. There's some of them signing 'treaties' between the organization they founded and whatever crap.
There's videos of them being interviewed on foreign (often based in South Asia) news programs promoting this organization, some humanitarian stuff, the like—all saying some similarly garbled mess of humanity this, humanity that. No real substance. They have videos of going to foreign speaking events, 'summits', giving speeches and shit—there's videos of other people participating in these things, claiming to have been invited by them to these events. They're on award-giving ceremonies, the kind that sound and look like the made-up ones you'd see on those sham healing coffees whose ads get spammed on radio.
It's kind of wild. They're not the only person in these videos, and they're often in a room full of people, but everyone acts like everything's normal that you kind of start doubting yourself and maybe it's not a scam after all. But a Filipino meeting world leaders? And it got no local airwaves? Man, even Filipino hairstylists of random American celebrities get on the news.
It looks like more of a vanity award to me, like those "award shows" happened in Okada. These "awards" organizers would require payment to their "awardees" in order to get the "award". The OG of these is the Gusi Peace Prize.
That's one rule break that proves the rule, lol! I mean, it's not really a rule break in my book--and I don't even dare look at reddit posts when troubleshooting (work, or personal projects) and use the cached version whenever possible.
I vaguely remember seeing one of the artists' videos on reddit but kinda forgot about him. But last night I stumbled upon this song on a Youtube short and I especially liked the lady singer's voice. It got me looking for the original and what a pleasant surprise.
Haven't seen the video yet, but I'm generally more willing to support GN on issues like this. They've usually shown that they take journalism very seriously.
EDIT: Just watched the full video. God damn, Tech Jesus has LTT dead to rights.
It makes you wonder if that multi-million dollar buyout Linus claims (that he turned down) is indeed true. Or maybe because if I was in his position I'd take it and run, lol.
Edit: Will watch the whole debacle later. Mukhang juicy. Gayahin nyo kasi si Hardware Canucks, inot inot lang upload.
Edit 2: Started with the Billet Labs vid first. Damn, wtf. LMG done fucked up.
The wife's subordinate spent a ton of money on Axie and tried to get others to join. Alam nyo naman siguro naging ending ng Axie, assuming you didn't smell it as a pyramid from a mile away.
Yung parent ng isang kakila ko spent their whole retirement package for water refilling station business. What's worse is meron na nakatayo sa kabilang kanto.
Within 2yrs, nagtransfer si kakilala from a private college to a public one.
Something weird just happened today. Whichever explanation I can think of concerns me, really. SO here it goes.
Let's start with yesterday (Monday around noon); I just got back from my home province and started unpacking my stuff. I distinctly remember getting the bath soap that I took from the province out my bag and into the shared restroom (I share the restroom with whoever was on the apartment next to mine, so I thought it was fine).
Which brings us to today. About an hour ago, I went to the restroom to take a crap and, lo and behold, my bath soap was missing. So, like any dude who is pissed that someone is taking my stuff without my permission, I ripped a tissue core in half and wrote down an angry message stating "Return my bath soap" and accusing whoever took it as a thief. So I left the message in the restroom and went back to my room. I opened my bag to get my umbrella (which was still in the bag), and what do I see but my soap, which was in there.
I don't know if I'm getting phantom memories or if somehow my soap walked all the way from my shared bathroom to my locked room and in my bag, but either way, it's not normal for me. It's worrying to be honest.
