Had a home reno to finish so I'm just watching the game now. Only 20 mins in and I'm surprised how poorly Liverpool are playing and at how well we are playing.
I know it's a given, but there's was some fucking atrocious refereeing in this match.
But what a great win for us! Well deserved too. I feel like each time Mikel gets a win against Liverpool he exorcises another demon. They've been a pain in our arse for so long. But aside from that recent woeful FA Cup loss, he's had their number.
I felt we played quite smoothly in the first half, bar a couple of incidences. Our passing was pretty on point without losing possession. I think it also comes down to how out-of-sorts Liverpool felt.
I also felt like the ref was fairly consistent, not too much to complain about. I am curious to know if we should have had a penalty. If we had lost or drawn I could have seen that being a big talking point for pundits and fans.
It was also nice of van Dijk to do us a favour for the 2nd goal. Felt like it took a little bit of the pressure off.
Frustrating how we gave up the goal, but the response was fantastic, and at least Liverpool gifted us one in return. The fight in the second half was great, but I think there was a little too much passion and not enough smarts given the late cards we got. I hope that doesn't become a factor later in the season.
A huge win, though. I hope we can keep the momentum for a while.
