WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Governor Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency for several counties in Southern California to support storm response and recovery efforts. SACRAMENTO – Today…
Just got a weather alert saying that in the higher elevations of California there is expected 8 - 10 feet of snow with 100 mph winds. I have actually been through those conditions a couple of times in my youth and it is no joke.
Feet?! That alone is bad enough but 100mph winds, too?!?! Holy shit. That's sounds like some dangerous weather. I've seen high winds and snow and I've seen lots of snow (30" I think was the max in 1997) but never both.
I’ve lived in NorCal my whole (30 years) life, and I even have to say this is the longest and windiest storm I can recall. We had a pretty good storm last winter that kicked off our atmospheric river historical rain, and even that wasn’t this windy.
The rain has been pretty heavy, but nothing we’ve not seen before in NorCal. The heavy snow is nice!
The wind is wild. I'm in NorCal, but in the valley so I don't have to worry about snow. I can't believe how long it's been so windy. It feels like a Midwest storm, but it's too cold to worry about tornados. I'm curious to see how many trees/branches are on the ground tomorrow.
