ChatGPT-maker OpenAI and The Associated Press said Thursday that they’ve made a deal for the artificial intelligence company to license AP’s archive of news stories.
I wonder if this is just OpenAI hopes of training on AP archives to reduce the amount of falsely generated information regarding real-world events and people or if there's something more going on.
Aside from using ChatGTP to write articles more quickly what is AP getting in return? Are they hoping OpenAI will work with them on creating a more powerful tool for article writing, or retrieving previous information from AP publications? Maybe they just want to reduce the spread of misinformation?
The AP mostly aggregates other news sources. They don't really do journalism, exactly. This way they can probably fire a bunch of their "reporters" who are basically doing exactly what the AI will do.
