The following screenshot is a composite. The popups for the last two days are inserted top left and top right. I also copied the Y-axis description from left to right.
Sighs ... the enthusiasm is appreciated, but reacting to the numbers like this without looking into what's going on is likely to lead to false conclusions.
In this case, I'm pretty sure fedidb is making a mistake and reading two separate endpoints of the kbin.social instance as separate instances when they're the same. As kbin.social has ~50k users, this number is about that much too high. See the servers list for kbin here: https://fedidb.org/software/kbin
I've messaged the admin of fedidb on mastodon about this and so they know. But at the moment it seems the admin is setting something up that looks like separate instances without being so.

You're reading things into this, probably because that's how these posts usually go.
But if you look again, I merely posted the stats, and asked how they could be explained. Looking into what's going on.
It's a question, not enthusiasm or celebration.
Thanks for the rest of your comment, that was a helpful answer.
I initially had a similar reaction, as ‘active users’ in the title makes it look like you are stating a fact. ‘Reported active users’ in the title would have given a suggestion that you are (rightly) questioning the number.
What happened with these crossposts? Before making this post, I searched for similar topics in the community I posted in, in the relevant time frame, and found none. So I made a new post without cross-posting. Did a mod link my post to other posts? I understand they all relate to a similar topic, but not to the specific question asked. Some are even a month old.
