And I concluded that TILvids is the most decent instance if you consider userbase and quality videos/channels. At least for english-speaking folks. Am I right?
Decent instance?
Not sure that is the right question as all channels on any instance are equally visible. So from a viewer point of view any instance with good uptime and open registrations that you feel confident will have longevity will do.
If you are uploading than all the above and decent upload quotas are the key imo.
@phil299@fit6529 Wait, this is only partially true. Whilst you can always sub to other PeerTube accounts accross instances, TILvids will not actively federate with everything and everyone. This directly affect what videos you can discover directly through TILvids, and that seems to be the most popular instance ATM. Or it's the one I keep hearing about at least.
We have Sepia-search that helps with discoverability, but not every instance has it activated. Again, this hurts smaller instances.

Can not really talk about TILvids as I am not using that insatnce, and I am sort of glad now I know this. I do prefer instances that only defed reluctantly. But this is the beauty of the fediverse , choice :-) My peertube instance works well https://rankett.net/w/uygqwNoiGptud82ZjPEknf
@phil299@fit6529 What TILvids is doing isn't wrong though. They want you to only discover a certain type of content when you visit their site (edutainment). And I like that, having more specialized instances. Then you know where to go to find quality.
TILvids only federate with one instance ATM, neat.tube, which is owned by TechLore whom produces Edutainment-content.
