Check a carnicería. Birria made with goat meat (the right way, not TJ beef style) is the shit.

Goat is absolutely delicious in curry. Mutton is too, but mutton is much harder to find than goat in the US. Lamb is easy though.
11ReplyJust keep lamb for a while and you get mutton. Easy.
6ReplyUsually the ripening process of lamb is cut short so it cannot become mutton anymore :(
3ReplyI'm not sure why mutton isn't available. Sheep are raised both for lamb, and also for wool. Once a sheep is old enough that it's not useful for wool production, it's usually slaughtered. But where does the mutton from that mature sheep go? I just don't know. All I know is that it's very difficult to find in the US.

Goat is hard to find where I live in the Netherlands. We have a fine butcher shop that sells anything except goat.
1ReplyThat's very strange to me. We had a lot of butchers in Chicago that sold goat, but none that sold mature sheep.
Have you tried checking halal butchers? I know that goat was much easier to find in the areas of Chicago that had large Pakistani and Afghani populations.

They should get in touch with the people of Alcudi, Italy or Samothraki, Greece. I'm sure they could make a mutually beneficial deal 😁
As a side note, "island with too many goats" is one of the funner search queries I've typed lately 😄
10Replytbf those people are not eating their goats. Goat meat is very strong but pretty good once in a while
2ReplyI've personally tasted goat meat only a couple times but it was delicious both times so I don't see why not 🤷
