Lemmy instance with 2 alternative frontends.

The 2 frontends are

Mlmym at old.endlesstalk.org. Here you can get the old.reddit experience.
Alexandrite at new.endlesstalk.org. "A beautiful and convenient desktop-first alternate web UI for Lemmy."
- Registering isn't supported yet. Need to sign up using old.endlesstalk.org or new.endlesstalk.org.

Everyone is welcome to try them and sign up(not required). It is running on a fairly beefy server, so should be able to take a decent amount of users.

Love the look of Alexandrite. Is there a way to self-host it? I’m not familiar with Svelte.

- I created a fork, where I added a Dockerfile, so if you know Docker and how to build it, should be able to use that.
  
  It exposes port 3000 and you need to point PUBLIC_INSTANCE to where the main instance is hosted.

- (I'm the dev of Alexandrite) Officially there isn't yet a way to self-host it without modifying the code (unless you host it on one of a few specific cloud providers like the official Alexandrite site does), but now that people are self hosting anyway I think adding support for it is going to be higher up on my priority list!

Can't sign up - 400 Bad Request: rate_limit_error

- I think it was because of a wrong rate limit setting. Should be fixed now.

new.endlesstalk.org looks very pretty, and it's all very speedy, but - for me, on Microsoft Edge - clicking 'Subscribed' or 'Local' or 'All' doesn't actually change anything.

Also, I tried to migrate my subscriptions etc with LASIM, but - for old.endlesstalk.org - it says the API isn't there, and for endlesstalk.org and new.endlesstalk.org it uploads and says it's worked, but nothing is there for any of the site versions.

- Hmm. It shouldn't work for old.endlesstalk.org, since it has a setup, where the backend isn't reachable, but it should work for the other 2.
  
  I have just found that the image service has had some files corrupted and therefor it isn't working currently, so that might be the cause? I'm working on restoring a backup, so it works again.
  
  Hopefully that fixes the issue. Will let your know, when the image service works again.

  Re: navigating between Subscribed, Local or All on the Alexandrite version, I've just realised that I also have to press "Go>" to make it change, so sorry about that.
  
  Re: using LASIM to upload subscriptions still doesn't do anything, unfortunately. It might be the app - I've never used it on anything before tbh.

Cannot find kbin.social instances - how do I join those from endlesstalk?

  Have you tried searching via the url of the kbin magazone/community in endlesstalk.org? or just searching for them without @?

Alexandrite looks great, thanks for the dockerfile.

Noob question: could this be build as a native theme? Lemmy has an extra theme folder 🤔

- I don't know too much about frontend, but I my guess would be, that it would be difficult to get an 1 to 1 copy, but you coud get something fairly close.

I never had considered before a few days ago that someone would host Alexandrite alongside their instance so it never occurred to me that someone might first interact with Lemmy through Alexandrite. I will definitely add registration!

I'm assuming you'd need an account specifically on endlesstalk.org to use these frontend?

I'm already moderating a few communities so completely migrating to a new instance is probably not worth it for me (and I'd prefer to keep my sdf.org connections)

I'd love it if these alternative sites could use a login from a different instance somehow, basically operating in the same way a mobile app does

- Yeah, for the frontends setup on endlesstalk.org you would need an account there, but the developers of the frontends have setup their own, where you can use an instance you want.
  
  For Alexandrite there is https://alexandrite.app and for Mlmym there is https://mlmym.org

On old.endlesstalk.org, /home/ seems to link to the same feed as /all/, and the own subscriptions don't show up in the top bar. Is that a bug?

- My subscriptions show in the topbar, so I'm not sure why yours doesn't.
  
  The home seems to link to the "default listing" under settings, so if yours are set to All, then that would be the correct behaviour.

  Thanks, that I had to use settings was not immediately obvious. Also, a lot of subscriptions show as "pending", which may be why they don't show up in the topbar.
