For those looking for work, or a change in work, how's it been going?
  • Not great, I've been looking for a remote role in engineering. I only ever hear back from about 1/10 of online applications. I've started trying the custom resume for each job approach but it takes forever to apply. And I haven't seen an uptick in responses yet. LinkedIn suggests jobs that I'd be a good fit for and in under 1 hour of that job being posted it has over 100 applicants.

Elon Musk on pace to become world’s first trillionaire by 2027, report says
  • This is a stupid article. I don't think we can expect him to see 123% growth rate for 3 more years. That's like saying my kid grew 6 inches this year by the time they're 40 they will be 19 feet tall.

What kind of messaging apps do you use?
  • I don't think most citizens of the USA care about surveillance. (Source: I am a citizen who doesn't care) Targeted ads don't really bother me. I care more about convenience than privacy and a good portion of people I know feel the same way. I guess it's a cultural thing.

This country needs some fuckin' reform.
  • Buses can go all of those places. A system of regional light rails in buses would probably work. Urban sprawl makes it difficult.

Finland to build world’s largest air-to-water heat pump plant
  • It looks like this is what they currently do. I believe the goal is to retire some of these older district heating systems and just use renewables for electric generation. https://www.helen.fi/tietoa-meista/energia/energiantuotanto/voimalaitokset In the short term they can shut down some of the gas/coal/pellet thermal centers without needing to build a new generator.

Finland to build world’s largest air-to-water heat pump plant
  • It looks like this is not even the largest heat pump man makes, just the largest air to water. This is still significant because it is pulling heat out of ambient air, not some other process fluid.

What's up with all those spam bots lately in the youtube comment section?
  • I think it's likely a combination of bots made to generate "engagement" and bots trying to establish themselves as actual users so it becomes harder to spot them pushing a scam later. Content creators may pay for bots to comment to help their videos get promoted, or an enterprising individual may make a bot army to comment on a specific video and try to then sell their engagement services when that video does better. YouTube also has an algorithm for banning/shadow banning accounts pushing scams, leaving "normal" comments may make it harder for YouTube's algorithm to spot these people.

What should I do if I find a bag by the road that I'm concerned it's a dead body?
  • I think 911 (or whatever the number is where you live) would be fine. But the argument could be made that the emergency number should reserved for active emergencies, in OPs case the victim is already potentially dead.

  • A follow up to my survey posted last week. Thank you to everyone who responded. Hope you enjoy. I have some ideas on how I could follow up on this with additional surveys, so if you want to see more let me know.

    forms.gle The Price of Coffee

Inspired by Hoffman's State of Coffee

I was inspired by Hoffman's survey on the state of espresso to create my own survey about the price of coffee. I grew up thinking all coffee was the same then I had "good" coffee and realized it was worth it to pay more. Please take a moment to respond, if I get enough data I'll post the results and findings.

Added a pressure gauge, pump dimmer switch, upgraded steam wand, and sawed off portafilter to my cheap DeLonghi a while ago. Works good enough and definitely learned a lot about how espresso machines work. Let me know if you'd be interested in a guide on how to perform the pressure gauge dimmer switch mod.

Latte art is all the rage for social media, but do people order them for the taste or just the clout? At home I find steaming milk annoying and then it just feels like I'm sitting down to a glass of hot milk when I'm finally done. What are other people's thoughts? Do you like milk drinks? Do you make them at home?
