Top Extensions to Make YouTube Bearable
  • adb to remove google services, fdroid for a firefox browser, revanced manager on github to compile revanced, and once that's done all that's left is to install it. Maybe also export it so that you don't have to rebuild that version again.

What are your niche hobbies you’d like to share with other people?
  • Whoah, that's cool! Gonna have to try it out at some point.

I just use furnace to make covers, but it would be nice to use the actual chip at some point. Maybe there's a stray PC98 on ebay or something lol

Advanced pirates, whats a tip others might not know?
  • If you have a large steam library, the rin forum has some tools to help backup a good chunk of those games. Usually you can't run a steam game without the steam client, but steamless and goldberg can make them run without needing the client.

Clemson University to ban TikTok on all campus networks
  • I never said that shortform content is bad or that tik tok should be banned. I just couldn't care less about the app because it just doesn't have anything in particular that interests me. If it did I would be using tik tok and not lemmy lol. The comment above just kinda rubbed me the wrong way i guess.

Advice for a middle-age, moderately pc knowledgeable person to finally switch to or become proficient with Linux?
  • The best thing to do is to just jump in.Pick a distro, doesn't matter which and just start using it.

For software just browse the Music category of pamac, discover, or whatever app-front you decide to use. There's some really good stuff in there.

looks like 2023 is finally the year!
  • For the most part it works really well! 90% of games on steam work without any hassle and the 10% with errors have workarounds. It's not perfect but it's definitely getting better as time goes on, especially with more anticheats having compatibility with linux than 5 years ago. When it comes to standalone games, it can be a mixed bag because sometimes it works perfectly and other times it doesn't, but launchers like lutris help get the games that don't work run decently. When it comes to emulators, they work really well, sometimes better than running them on windows, but keep in mind where you're getting them. I have less issues overall with the flatpack variants of emulators.

    Is beehaw still defederated?
  • If you want to check what instances are federated or unfederated, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page on desktop and click on Instances. It will show a list.

  • There isn't a specific place to talk about Etrian Odyssey as far as I could find, so I decided to make one. It's not much at the moment but if you want to join it go ahead.
