Hungarian government campaign renews antisemitism concerns
  • The short answer is that it's complicated, yes there is some dog whistling because it appeals to a certain voter base, and fidesz's biggest competition are far right parties. But this is a common issue all over Europe, a general shift to the right.

On the other hand, Orban and Netanjahu are close allies, the government supports Israel, the government is using Israel's Pegasus spy software against Hungarians, so there's a close, supportive relationship.

The main theme here, in my opinion, is this continuous campaign strategy of inventing villains that Orban can fight and win against. The more imaginary the better, as it leaves more room for controlling the narrative.

Here's a reddit link (there's not significant Hungarian present here yet...) of an excellent side by side how they rinse and repeat the same rhetoric

Need help with Part 103 question
  • Hi, EASA pilot here, so take everything I say with a grain of salt, there are differences between our regulations. FAA 103.17 says "unless that person has prior authorisation" therefore technically it is possible to go gliding there if ATC permits. Of course that is unlikely given the current traffic situation that you described. As far as I can see there aren't any clubs or flight schools there either. My theory is that since its subject to authorisation, there's no reason to remove it, and if there's a change in the traffic situation or there's a special occasion, the already established gliding area keeps the activities organised.

Private health care won’t reduce wait times — it may raise them, report says
  • wait times will only significantly decrease if healthcare is unaffordable to the majority of Canadians

Wait a minute! So if I buy your healthcare, and start defunding it, while simultaneously increasing prices, thus reducing the number of patients at the same rate as the services are failing therefore not increasing or perhaps even(!) reducing waiting times through prohibitively high costs,

I can both sell privatisation as a success story, AAND make record profits with my pals in the insurance business through cost cuts and price increases!? And I even end up with a less empowered workforce who's healthcare is tied to their employment and therefore unable to negotiate better salaries or leave for a better job easily? Kinda like medieval serfs??

Stop please stop! I can only get so excited (and I can't afford an ambulance) Big /s of course

Hungary Bans Minors From Visiting Prestigious Photo Exhibition Over LGBT Display
  • It's not my place to tell you how you approach your Hungarian heritage, just want to let you know that while Hungary pushed through a kind of soft book ban where LGBTQ books must be foil wrapped in the bookstores - to protect the children - It backfired and the wrapped books are more popular than before

    Source:

Besides if the bigots pushing these laws are not ashamed of themselves, why should you be? You have as much right to mold the Hungarian identity as they do.

    Edit:trying to add the source

Total War Warhammer 3 devs will remove Steam users starting boycotts
  • I think you're thinking of Games Workshop, the IP holder for WH and WH40K. This is about Creative Assembly, the developer of the Total War RTS games, mostly historical, but also 3 set in the WH universe. They basically developed a very adversarial relationship with their core audience and failed to innovate in decades. Oh wait it is kinda similar to the Games Workshop situation...
