I never thought to ask this question before. How many of you are equally capable of using your right versus your left hand?
  • I think ambidextrous is the appropriate term, no? Cross-dominance is more significant, while OP only said equally capable. Cross dominance is favoring each one for different applications.

Still it’s got to be possible in theory.

What is your criteria based on which you feel something someone says calls for proof or not?
  • Gotcha. And no, lol, I don’t believe in fairy tales. But that’s interesting about the sources. I’d like to read about that. It was my understanding that any mention of him was centuries later but even decades is suspect. Think about it - how in the world would nobody write about such events at the time? Why would it be decades before any mention? A logical answer is that by then the leaders could craft some legend or even maybe just exaggerate based on some kind of stories that existed. Point is, once we’re dealing with a time when the written word was already common, it makes no sense that such miraculous tales would not be written about widely and plentifully.

What is your favorite mythological figure (of ancient religions only)?
  • There are numerous names and in fact, there are sources which I cannot recall, that said his full name was like 24 letters long or something like that. Not surprising since he’s a hodgepodge of lots of prior mythos and was probably written of and modified over hundreds of years.

What is your favorite mythological figure (of ancient religions only)?
  • Eldad HaDaani (Eldad the Daanite). Not a major figure but he was like a classic bard in D&D. Told of his travels - which are referenced in songs made out of the literature talking about him. Said he had encountered a river that nobody knew where it was and is considered like lore (the Sambatyon). Anyway I always felt like it was a cool story. I never read all that much of him but growing up as Orthodox Jewish he’s mentioned in some things we sang and I always equated him as being a perfect Bard for a D&as campaign.

What is your criteria based on which you feel something someone says calls for proof or not?
  • Yeah if I’m not mistaken there are contemporary records of Genghis Khan, no?

The first ever mention of Jesus at all is in a writing from 300+ years after his supposed life. Also, Jesus is a character from a religious text which we all know cannot be trusted as historical fact. I think - but I could be wrong - that Genghis Khan is written about in numerous corroborating texts from the actual era? Someone check me on that please.

Edit: yeah I looked it up GK was in the 12th century that’s really not ancient. He’s written about in many sources from across Asia and Europe in many languages. That’s corroborating evidence. Jesus is not mentioned anywhere other than scriptures from hundreds of years after his supposed existence.

Plus there have been numerous figures in other mythologies that have many or most of the same characteristics which make it more likely a classical kind of archetype. Mithra, Horus, Krishna… and a handful of others who predate Jesus’ supposed existence. That’s actually counter-evidence that supports the idea that he was not real, in fact.

Also, to suggest that its age means it should be replaced is a horrible attitude. This thing can serve so many purposes including even as a main phone if someone didn’t need too much. Your attitude is why the planet is falling apart.

  • They don't have the Galaxy Note 3 listed in the devices. However, numerous websites state that 18 works on it. Are they all wrong? I would believe if you told me it simply cannot be done. I don't know what to believe anymore since there are a million sites that are full of shit as it is.

Do you know of a rom that does work on it?

  • Hey all,

Want to know what are my options for example, Lineage 18, or AOSP Android, or something else. The reason I want to do this is it has Android 5 and there's just too much that won't work on it. Also I want more control as in remove junk I don't want, move apps to SD, etc. Not have stuff run and waste CPU and RAM.

If anyone has specific knowledge about this device and what's the best option, or even tell me what any given option offers best, that would be very much appreciated.

  • That’s cool. I have adb on my machine.

So did you do any alternative rom or just flash to get a clean copy? I’d love to put something else on there it’s actually a pretty nice device. I usually don’t love Motorola but they have their gems here and there.

  • I’m not asking others to Google for me. As I’ve explained to others, I have done a ton of looking for weeks actually. It’s just most of the instructions I find are not very clear at all. I stated this in my post which precludes the possibility of my not having done any prior research. That’s something everyone seems to have missed except one guy.

  • Root would be for the older units which aren’t getting any updates anymore and where I just want to tinker.

I’d be interested in any of the roms available such as Lineage, Havoc, /e/, or others.

  • No worries it’s just I had done research literally for weeks. I just could not find anything that was written as comprehensively as I’d hoped. I will spend some time looking at the links you provided which again, I really appreciate. I think online it’s easy for any of us to just provide what help we can rather than look at what could have been done without us. Bottom line is someone’s asking for help even if no more than just to tell them seek and ye shall find and all that. But I had gotten frustrated with how many of the XDA folks post their instructions.

Anyway, not the most important things in life, by any means :-)

  • I posted a reply to you that was meant for someone else. I really appreciate what you provided for me; that was far more than expected and it was very kind and generous of you.

I actually have done a massive amount of research but most of the instructions I’ve found are vague in some respects, sometimes they’re outdated, and sometimes they just assume too much. I’ve literally seen ones that say like “1. Unlock boot loader. 2. Load new rom. 3…. Etc” I was like “uh… how about any clue on how to do those things? Even a link to sub-procedures where it’s already documented.

Sometimes someone happens to have experience with one or has a great tutorial that helped them, and that’s what I was looking for.

I’m kinda coming from the era back when we were hacking the roms of windows mobile phones, or the old Nextel phones using Java tools to sneak in our own ringtones when the phones were all locked tight so the carriers could penny pinch you for $2 for a ringtone. Instructions back then were extremely comprehensive even had fucking photos lol. I don’t need that much but a lot of what I find today is just unintelligible. I pretty much assume it’s meant for someone who does this all the time.

Thank you, again. I appreciate your help.

    Hey all,

I want a firewall app for just basically to enforce restrictions on outgoing communication based on service or app. It is mostly to block data harvesting. For reference, if anyone remembers there was one for iPhone called Firewall IP and it was just perfection. That was back when we could jailbreak.

Anyway, so that's all I need. Free is best, of course, but I would pay a bit if it is an exceptionally good product. No problem paying for quality. But I will have no interest in anything that's subscription based, nor anything that I need some kind of backend "approval" or login in order to install and use it. In other words, I want to know that if in a hundred years I happen to have a working phone from today, and the apk file, then I can install it. Obviously that's reductoi ad absurdum but you get my point.

Thanks for any recommendations. P.S. I'm not rooted, if that matters. Although I am still interested in possibly getting a replacement ROM for my device.

So I was recently talking about a few phones I had bought used, which have FRP lockout. So, the one I was talking about working on at the time is a Galaxy J7 Sky Pro. Well I finally used DroidKit on it, and after a moderately lengthy procedure, it is FREE of the lockout! So the software is not a scam, it actually did work.

I have been having trouble with another phone because when it gets to the stage where it needs to dial \#0\# it supposed to bring up the factory mode to test various components. I’ve seen this on other phones work but this one, a Galaxy A01, it doesn’t bring up that mode. And it can’t continue. Another phone I have is a ZTE and that’s not one of the supported brands in Droidkit.

But one worked! Which means likely it’s fairly reliable. So that’s cool.

Is it supposed to be like a dock? I’m using Nova Launcher and then I found the Edge Panel and it is a bit much but for those who use the default launcher is that the idea?

    Hi all,

Okay so my Galaxy Tab A7 Lite has arrived. I did some searching and it seems like there are a million options as far as replacing / hacking the rom.

So, all I want to do is have root access, and be rid of any bloat that’s built in. I prefer whatever is most tried and true, and whatever does not have any iffy components still. Like, I want everything to function without glitches, I want to get the most out of my hardware, and other than that, I really don’t want a 100-step process.

So, recommends? What’s available that’s very reliable and what does it offer me?

(Eg: GSI+Root, Lineage, Havoc, et al)

I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Hey all, I was about to setup uBlock Origin in chromium, when I saw the notice that it may soon be ended due to not following best practices, etc. I looked this up and some articles and posts state that Chrome is discontinuing content blockers / ad blockers soon. Will this apply to the chromium app in Linux?

Other than for testing purposes, my usage of Chromium is for the ability to make some sites into webApps. I just like some to be isolated with their own window and icon. The standard response I see to pretty much anyone is that they should switch to Firefox and stop wanting the webApp. I saw some comments that Firefox does not and will not implement webApps due to some security issues (?? not sure why). I don't understand how it is difficult just make a standalone window with a custom icon choice. I see no reason that has to compromise anything at all, but I am not a developer.

I'm getting off-track here. So, is Chromium going to go the way Google wants it to go for Chrome? It was my understanding that Chromium is kind of an offshoot and not just up to Google in terms of its course. Will we be able to use extensions that Google doesn't want, and have to get them from a new repository instead of the chrome web store?

Any insight on this would be appreciated, thanks.

Hey, so I know you can tap on a dock icon to launch the app, but when the dock is more than full and requires scrolling to shift the icons, this still cannot be done with the touch screen, based on docks I have tested. I tried the built in docks in Gnome on Pop, Ubuntu, and also Plank. None respond to an attempted drag via the touch screen.

Are there any less widely known ones that do? Are there any plans to bring this functionality to the dock in Gnome?

    Hey folks,

So, I have an old school iPod I got from someone it’s sweet and I want to put my music on it. Is there a decent app in Linux that will be able to do the sync of music? Or is it able to be just copied to like an external drive?

Hi all, I just wanted to say hello. I’m an adult and came to realize in the past few years only that I’m probably on the spectrum given some of my tendencies. When I was a kid there was no label autism other than the most extreme cases. As it turns out, my son - late teens - is on the spectrum and also has ADHD. He struggles with a variety of aspects but he’s also strong and insightful. He learns about himself more all the time, and I also have the benefit of being able to relate to some of his challenges.

So I just thought I’d say hi; very glad to have discovered this community.

I’m around most of the time to comment or converse.

Best wishes to everyone, and I’m hoping to have some rewarding conversations in the future.

PlayOnLinux will allow you to play your favorite games on Linux easily

Hello all, In a previous installation I was able to successfully use PlayOnLinux to run a few Windows apps. My most recent system, though, is not liking it. Currently on Kubuntu 24.04

WINE is present and up to date. However, when I tried to install PON from either Discover, or using APT, the app crashes immediately. I never even get to the GUI. I read on the page for the app in Discover, numerous others complain about this exact problem.

Anyone know about this and how to resolve it?

I included the link to the app's website because there are numerous versions and it states you need to use the correct one. I don't know what those different variables mean, so could someone please advise? (deb files, Cosmic, Trusty, Bionic, Xenial.... etc. I don't understand these).

Thank you to anyone who can assist.

Yeah, so I have a notebook with Kubuntu 24.04. I have Night Control setup for warmer color 8:00PM-8:00AM

Oftentimes I go to the computer to do something and I see it is in the wrong mode. I’ve not seen any pattern it’s just arbitrarily not switching over.

My lid close action is just turn off screen; no sleep mode (problems). So usually I am opening the lid and start to use the machine and then notice this.

Is this a known issue? Or does anyone else have this problem?

I only ever played Rygar a little one summer but I remember it very fondly. I’d love to play it on my Linux laptop if possible. I saw on wiki there was an Android port at some point - I’d ideally like the NES incarnation.
