Hey she's got eh!t and I want eh!t, lay eh!t on me baby!
That word may be ordinary in Spanish, but something tells me (the complete lack of other Spanish words, as well as the context) that in this case it was meant in the "archaic" form.
Also idk if it's "archaic at worst," "at worst" it is still a slur in many contexts. Like, you can talk about The Negro League in historical context referring to baseball and be completely fine, but you absolutely cannot go up to someone and say "What up my Ne--o" (gonna bleep that one, but leave enough context so you can tell it's not intended to be the other one.) "You are an ignorant stupid ne--o" seems to fit squarely in the context of slur to me and imo its use here is in bad taste at best and frankly I think it is racist.
Not that I disagree with hating trump, I just think hating trump so hard you become racist isn't really a good solution to the problem, and the church could probably rework that sign.
Good. I don't trust them dern robuts.
I was here 2y before the exodus, it's absolutely not just the newbies. Maybe some other -ies...
I for one welcome the shit out of the newbies, I'm thankful to have them and want more, and for them to bring their niche interests with them. They help filter some of the toxicity out.
Would we buy from CCI now that Vista sold to the Czechs? Hornady save us!
Give Marvin Heeymeyer a Case asphalt compactor, a welder, and some steel. We'll have this problem licked before dinner.
I'm pretty sure they count as destructive devices, but I'd be lying if I said child me didn't have a lot of fun with redneck napalm.
America: Overrun by zombies
Jerry Miculek's house: Absolutely clear, they've learned to avoid his property line.
I didn't know this had a show, I found a random VHS of The Lexx movie at a thrift store and watched that though, odd movie, but I keep watching it. I guess I need to download the show now!
As of audacity 3.0.3 (or was it 3.1.3? Shit it's been a while..) it includes telemetry from the russian company that bought it. It was forked to oblivion and Tenacity is the best replacement fork.
Antix will run on old grey boxes with mb of ram, it oughta work for you too.
Fridges 100% die, they're made to now. If your fridge is really that old and you can manage it, NEVER get rid of it, tell your parents to leave it to you in their will lmao.
You HAVE to be trolling lol.
Ah yeah that's fair, I didn't think about that due to my abject refusal to follow copyright laws lol.
Just in case you're actually unaware and not just bullshitting,
Right ok.... But what's on the other PC for for an OS? And why should we bother having another one on a different OS assuming we can afford extra hardware?
Came off snarky, thus rude, and is why I returned it in kind. If you weren't trying to be rude and it came off that way by mistake, my bad, but it definitely seemed intentionally and unnecessarily snarky.
Well since this thread is about computers unable to run windows 11 due to HW restrictions, meaning they'll be insecure when the EOL is reached, the point would be "to keep your personal computing secure." If you're upgrading to w11, why are we even talking about w10 EOL? Just upgrade then, what's the problem?
Furthermore, if your company provides a computer at all, you may wish to have your personal computing done on something without their monitoring programs installed. Idk about you but my work doesn't need to know I googled "boobies" at 10pm on tuesday, or whatever.
Finally, because while upgrading to a computer that can run w11 is costly, buying a used computer off a friend who is upgrading is much cheaper, linux being much less resource intensive and able to run securely and receive critical security updates on cheaper, older hardware can be beneficial to someone who can't upgrade to w11 due to cost, or who is being forced by their workplace into using w10 (or even w11 with company spyware, really.)
Did I hold your hand well enough this time or are you still confused and being rude about it? Sure, maybe YOU don't care about security, and in that case you shouldn't, just run XP who cares, but for those that do it is an option.
Idk my sole interaction is through these headlines lol, I don't have steam, and haven't really even played anything since like RDR2 (well, not counting my GBC, I play with that all the time, currently playing Earthworm Jim (GB).)
Hey flipper comm! I just watched the LPL's video on how he bypassed SimpliSafe's door chimes with a 433.92 mhz signal broadcast from a generic remote to basically jam the weak signal output by the chime and bypass the alarm. Apparently it can also be done with a ham radio but they output too high of a signal and trip the radio interference notification on the alarm, and I immediately started wondering if the flipper would trip it or not.
A friend of mine has simplisafe and he said we can test it when I go see him in a couple months, but my problem then becomes "I don't know shit about Sub-gHz > Add Manually." There's so many protocols even just for 433mHz and I have no clue what the difference is between most of them (though I know KL and Security2.0 are rolling code protocols). Does anyone here know anything about them or which protocol it may use, or does it even matter?
Lpl didn't say the brand or I'd search the FCC ID and it seems that the one he used is no longer sold on amazon (probably due to his video haha.) There also seems to be a reddit thread related to flippers and simplisafe but unfortunately I absolutely refuse to install the app to see it.
Any help on the "Add Manually" would be greatly appreciated, I don't want to spend 4hr trying it out manually adding this and that protocol day of, we're gonna have drinking that needs to be done lol.
New list is up! Sorry I'm a day later than usual lol, busy week so far already!
Batman The Long Halloween The Last Halloween #2 - Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na BAT-MAN!
It Happened On Hyde Street Devour #1 - The only horror book that looks good to me coming out this week, a day before Halloween no less. Seems they all came out last week lol. Hyde St #1 was great though, so I'm sold. Sad state of affairs. At least Creepshow Vol 3 is underway!
Come Find Me an Autumnal Offering - Looks interesting.
Deadpool Team-Up #3 - Deadpool & Dragons has been ok so far.
That's it for me this week, real light one! What's on your pull lists?
New list is up! Some good stuff for me this week it looks like,
Termite Mound #1 - I'll look at it if my shop has it, looks weird, I know nothing but the cover.
DC Horror Presents #1 - Not huge on the whole DC verse but do love horror, may look at this too.
From The DC Vault Death In The Family Robin Lives #4 - I do like Batman though sometimes!
Creepshow Volume 3 #2 - Creepshow is what Epitaphs of the Abyss wishes it could be. I wish they'd just make it an ongoing rather than seasonal but as long as they keep making them with some regularity I won't complain.
Moon Is Following Us #2 - #1 was interesting, seems to be about basically a kid who got Matrixed into their own dreams and can't get out, and the parents have to enter the kid's dreamworld and adventure-to-rescue.
Nullhunter #1- "NULLHUNTER is a kinetic cyberpunk retelling of the Labors of Hercules." Huh, neat, I'll bite.
Universal Monsters Frankenstein #3 - I love the old Universal films, and this comic has been doing them justice.
That's it for me, what's on your lists this week?
Beneath the Trees gets a sequel.
YESSSS! It's coming!!
New list is up! Not toooo many for me this week.
From The World Of Minor Threats Barfly #3 - Ayyy Shiteater is back! This series is pretty good
Batman And Robin Year One #1 - Batman eh? Ok.
Batman Full Moon #1 - Werebatwolfman? Or Bat V Wolf? Guess I gotta find out.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Last Ronin II Re-Evolution #3 - Turtles for adults is soooo gooood. Need more!
Falling In Love On The Path To Hell #5 - Well y'all already knew this was on the list, I can't shut up about this series.
Epitaphs From The Abyss #4 - Last one was ok, I'll get this one. Creepshow is so much better though.
That's it for me, what're you picking up?

Hello lemmy's !music consortium. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this song, and being that it's lemmy, I'm assuming "probably." I've been looking for this song since Metro 2033 (game) came out, and I finally found it just now! It's sung by a guard right before you watch how Unkle Bourbon "works." (I had already found Гоп Стоп by Aleksander Rosenbaum). I didn't know where else to post this, being that it is music I came here, hope that's ok.
Now the issue is I'm a little lost on the historical context, and I was hoping one of the .mls out there who may have a bit more knowledge of the russian civil war could shed some light on it because to be frank I know nothing about it.
It seems to be a Cossack song, and anti Bolshevik? I translated the ru.wiki.whatever page and it seems to suggest the writers are a couple of punks with cool ass nicknames like "solid" and "not good" that pulled lyrics from a couple historical tunes, and that there was a 4th verse in the OG that is now oft omitted much to the chagrin of those authors, who call it "white guard pink snot" or something, what the hell does that mean?! Is the song supposed to be just generally anti-communist or is it...well...idk, really any insight into this tune would be much appreciated. Like I said I don't know much, I basically know the "reds" are the Bolsheviks and that's it.
New list is up! Come and get it! Let's see, for me...
Minor Arcana #2 - Jeff Lemire rules. Minor Arcana is good so far.
Groo Minstrel Melodies #2 - I didn't know Groo was still around until issue #1!
Batman Gotham By Gaslight The Kryptonian Age #5 - Been pretty good so far.
Life #2 - I'll be honest I still haven't read #1, I'm slacking.
Space Ghost #6 - Space Ghoooost! Can't wait until he gets booked on the talk show. Looks like Moltar is about to show up!
Geiger #7 - Super FalloutMan has been good, I'll keep going
Precious Metal #5 - I'm a little behind on this too but it's ok, I like the art a lot.
Looks like that's it for me this week, what's on your lists?
New list is up! Looks like a decent one..
Minor Arcana #1 - Honorable mention, this one is getting a second print. I'm all in so far with just #1. A woman returns from the city to her hometown, in part because of her failures, and in part because her mom is sick. Her mom runs a Tarot shop, the daughter thinks it's all bullshit scams but ends up running the shop and it turns out maybe it's not all bullshit after all, seems like she'll be talking to her sapphic old love from high school shortly.
Plastic Man No More #2 - Yeah I like Plastic Man now, he's funny!
Falling In Love on the Path To Hell reprints #1, 2, 3 - Most honorable mention. Image now bills this as "your favorite new ongoing" and I think they're right (because Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees isn't an ongoing...yet?...but anyway), it's damn good! Basically a Cowboy man and a Samurai woman wash up on the beach in purgatory after dying at the same time, and honestly I don't want to give away any more than that, it's fucking good. One of my favorite colorists too, Chris O'Hallorhan, who does Ice Cream Man.
Hyde Street #1 - Ghost Machine's (Geiger, Redcoat, Rook: Exodus) newest offering. I'll check it out for sure, since it's horror, but I'm not gonna lie the only thing I'm following is Geiger so far so we'll see.
I Hate Fairyland #16 - Yup! New arc!
Cruel Universe #3 - Cruel Universe is great! Honestly scarier than their horror offering so far, however Epitaphs #3 was pretty good!
That's it for me, what are you getting this week?
My Bad Escape From Peculiar Island #5 - Last one in this dumb ass series lol, why not.
Helen Of Wyndhorn #5 - This series has been good, I kinda hope it gets picked up.
Batman The Long Halloween The Last Halloween #1 - I guess I'm going to pick this up, but I haven't read the first series.
Lobo Cancellation Special #1 - Idk much about Lobo but this looks alright.
Creepshow Volume 3 #1 - It's here! The first two were so good! Need more. MORE!
Drawing Blood #6 - Tbh I've been slacking on this one but I'm still picking it up, I'll get to it.
Universal Monsters Frankenstein #2 - Really dug the first one, I'll keep picking this up.
Dick Tracy #5 - Dick Tracy rules! I need to buy a yellow trenchcoat for no reason.
Deadpool Team-Up #2 - Deadpool & Dragons™ I guess. Pretty weird but I'm giving it a shot. I'm not usually into marvel but I do like old Deadpool (and & Cable) and I think I'm gonna pick up whatever Deadpool Liefeld does, probably not any other stuff though (though I heard Scott Aukermann wrote one and I would like to find that lol).
Looks like that's it for me! Fucking hyped about Creepshow! What're you guys picking up?
Howdy partners, got a weird western y'all might want to partake in here.
Falling In Love On The Path To Hell is a new ongoing comic series being released by Image Comics currently. Issue #4 came out last week, and reprints of 1, 2, and 3 are coming out next Wednesday (10/02/2024). If you're looking for physical copies, here's a site that will help you find your nearest local comic book stores.
The basic story so far, is MacRaith (that handsome devil up front with two Colt Navy 1851 revolvers) and Asami (that beautiful Samurai in the background) die, and wash up with the corpse tide on the shores of Purgatory. They're "alive" however, and get recruited to fight the hordes of hell (who come out every night when the river Styx dries up) by a strange Sikh named Mohan (that feller there with the sun for an eye). Things, however, may not be as they seem, nor how they're presented by Mohan, time will tell...
Content warning: Mature Audiences only. "Sexual violence" has been (almost, it was prevented) depicted already.
New list is up! Let's see what we got this week..
Graveyard Club #1 - R. L. Stein, let's go!
Batman Day 2024 - Batman Elmer Fudd Special Noir #1 - What in the fuck is this? I'll have to get it, it's too insane not to.
Batman Day 2024 Batman The Long Halloween #0 - Heard this Long Halloween series rules, I need to read it, hopefully it gets a reprint about nowish..
Batman Day 2024 Batman The Long Halloween #1 - Well we're part way to a reprint, but I need all of em!
Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees TP - Alright I'm probably not picking this up because I have both the A and B covers of all the singles (not my usual MO), but I'm adding it as an honorable mention because if you don't have it yet you should 100% check this out at least. It's basically cute Richard Scarry style art with anthropomorphic animals, but the lead character is a serial killer. Huge problems arise in her world, can she stop it or not? I won't say, you'll have to read it to find out. I hope this gets picked up for more issues more than anything else out right now.
Falling In Love On The Path To Hell #4 - This series rules so far! Glad it's an ongoing now.
Ice Cream Man #41 - The series responsible for getting me into comics in the first place. It's like a sad song you can't stop listening to, or a bruise that you can't stop poking, it's depressing but so good. I like how they play with the format, like the issue that was a crossword puzzle, and the one that was all palindromes and could be read both front to back and back to front. This one looks to be a James Bond parody.
Moon Is Following Us #1 - I know nothing about this but it looks interesting.
Tin Can Society #1 - Might pick this up, the cover is intriguing.
Epitaphs From The Abyss #3 - Well issue 2 was better, but it's still no Creepshow. I'll continue it for one more at least. Looks like there's two new EC titles coming out soon too, a new SuspenStories and a new Weird Fantasy, both called something else but similar, of course.
Looks like that's it for me, what're you pulling this week?
Into The Unbeing Part One #4 - End of the road for this one. It's been interesting so far, some spelunkers going into a "cave" that may actually be a "head of some giant creature." I'm actually one behind but I'm going to read it here in a minute, just picked it up.
Groo Minstrel Melodies #1 - Idk much about Groo but I did read Mad back in the day, so I'm grabbing this.
Time Waits #1 - Idk much but DSTLRY stuff is usually worth a look.
Batman Gotham By Gaslight The Kryptonian Age #4 - This one has been alright so far.
Space Ghost #5 - Zorak is here! I love Zorak lmao, I can't stop thinking about The Brak Show and Space Ghost Coast to Coast while reading this and tbh it's a big reason if why I'm reading it haha.
Ain't No Grave #5 - End of the road. This series has been great, I like these weird westerns.
Geiger #6 - Hooray for Barney!
Precious Metal #4 - This series is weird as shit and I like the art.
That's it for me this week, what about you?
Anyone else having an issue where they have to resubscribe to a community every time the app closes? For some reason in eternity it keeps unsubbing me from !c/comicbooks@lemmy.world every time the app restarts itself, and I have to go resubscribe. None of this actually affects my account, I guess, because when I sign in with other apps I'm still subbed to it, eternity just removes it from my subs on boot and won't show the content in my subscriptions feed. Is there any way to fix this?
New list is up! Sorry I'm a day later than usual, I was "really sick" yesterday (totally not hungover if my boss is reading this!)
Let's see, decent list for me this week:
Animal Pound #5 - Last in this series, it's been great! A modern retelling of Animal Farm by George Orwell
Minor Arcana #1 - Jeff Lemire back at it after the conclusion of Fishflies. Flishflies rules, this sounds like it'll follow the trend. A woman who's mom is a psychic (but she never believed that much) has to move back home and take over the family business (or something like that). Turns out there may be something to it after all...
Dawnrunner #5 - End of the road for this too but I hope it gets picked up, eldritch kaiju vs mechs with consciousness and pilots.
Helen Of Wyndhorn #4 - This series has been great too. Helen's father, a writer, dies and she has to move back into her grandfather's palatial estate. Turns out the fae world her dad wrote "fiction" about is anything but, and she has been traveling through it with her grandfather doing stuff.
Plastic Man No More #1 - Idk much about Plastic Man but I've heard it's funny, I'll give it a shot.
Blood Brothers Mother #2 - Good western! I'm definitely going to finish this one out.
Cruel Universe #2 - The first one was great, hope that continues!
Well looks like that about wraps it up for me. Pretty excited about all of these! What're you pulling?
New list is up! Good one for me this week!
Batman Off-World #5 - This is still running? Bout damn forgot about this one!
Convert #1 - "Science Officer Orrin Kutela finds himself stranded on a distant planet, starving and haunted by the ghosts of his dead crew. On the verge of death, he makes an astonishing discovery. Veteran writer John Arcudi (Rumble, B.P.R.D.) and illustrator Savanna Finley bring you a sci-fi/fantasy comic like no other." Sounds interesting enough!
Drawing Blood #5 - Drawing Blood! Raining Blood plays. Kevin Eastman rules.
Sacrificers #11 - Sacrificers! Pigeon has been fucking shit up, Soluna is having a rough time, can't wait to see what this issue brings!
Universal Monsters Frankenstein #1 - The Creature reboot was good, I'll try this one too.
What're you pulling?
Fresh list is up! Looks like a short one for me this week but that's ok!
My Bad Escape From Peculiar Island #4 - This one is stupid and weird and I've been digging it, Thomas Jefferson vs some guy lmao.
Epitaphs From The Abyss #2 - This one I was so excited for the first issue but instead of having good stories it felt like it was just preaching to me sponsored by the DNC. It doesn't matter if I agree with many of the "lessons" they were trying to "teach me" either, it felt very condescending in a "hello fellow kids" way like some kind of food pyramid comic from the 90s. And the icing on the cake is the goddamn "weird fantasy" reboot Cruel Universe had "scarier" stories than this "horror" reboot! I'm going to give it another issue or two but this might get dropped pretty fast.
Standstill #1 - Not gonna lie I'm only slightly interested in this but since there's not much else for me this week I may check it out. Guy steals a time stopping device and commits crimes, the inventor has to stop him. Could be good though, we'll see!
That's it for me, what's on your lists this week?
I'm having an issue trying to burn a music CD for use in my (very old, I know I know) car. I'm running FedoraKDE (40) and Brasero, a Liteon brand external optical DVDRW drive, CD-R (TDK brand), and a Framework 16.
The issue I'm having seems to be that the blank disks(maybe?) aren't recognized automatically by Fedora, when I pop a full commercially released CD in it'll play/rip, but with a blank disk nothing happens, and I don't know where to "save" the "image" of this album I'm creating in Brasero to get it on the disk.
Someone on a random linux forum told some other guy to run cdrecord -checkdrive
which says my drive is at /dev/sr0 with a blank disk, but that's as far as I've gotten. Do I choose sr0 as the place to save it? It says "something something overwrite" when I try which makes me wary, it seems it wants to overwrite "sr0" itself and either bork my drive or install, but maybe?
I'm positive it's just something simple I'm missing, any help would be greatly appreciated and I can answer questions and run commands if needed (but I don't actually have WIFI rn, so I'll have to have the package for said command already.)
Thanks in advance.
Hey I figured I'd make a post and see the state of current lemmy appage, since I'm looking for a good one. So far I've used Jerboa, Thunder, Eternity, and Voyager.
Eternity seems to be a dead project, it's full of bugs and hasn't recieved an update since The Exodus
Thunder seems ok and is what I'm using right now, but I can't seem to send direct messages, and can't "Don't blur NSFW preview on NSFW comms" which sucks. The messaging is the dealbreaker for me.
Voyager I used momentarily but the UI was not my favorite.
Jerboa seems OK if unpolished (which is ok to me) but I don't trust the rabid idealogue that makes it and using another instance of his site is one thing, but installing an app is another. Has it been audited to confirm lack of spyware?
Ideally through this I can find one with instance blocking, DMs, and a decent UI. What're your experiences with the current state of lemmy apps?
List is up! Come amd get it!
From The World Of Minor Threats Barfly #2 (Of 4)(Cover B Evan Dorkin) - Our protagonist Shiteater is back in issue #2! And I love Evan Dorkin.
Into The Unbeing Part One #3 - This has been weird, I like weird.
Batman Gotham By Gaslight The Kryptonian Age #3 - Some decent Batman so far. Idk what elseworlds is actually, but this is that.
From The DC Vault Death In The Family Robin Lives #2 (Of 4) -Great old Batman! Need more classic rereleases like this, I've missed all of them.
Falling In Love On The Path To Hell #3 - This book is fucking cool. No two ways about it. So cool in fact it's now billed as "Your new favorite ongoing" by Image, looks like it has been extended, and I'm here for it! Issue #5's teaser says "This series is stabby, shooty, and horny, and you know you need it," and that's a pretty good summary lol.
Geiger #5 - Super Fallout Man vs The Cannibals in a quest to save his dog. Let's go! Get your dog back buddy!
Precious Metal #3 (Little Bird Series) - Issue #1 was actually my intro to the Little Birdiverse, but I now have all the back issues. I think I'm going yo finish out Precious Metal since iirc it is a prequel, and then start on Little Bird.
Dick Tracy #4 - Been digging this one.
That's it for me this week, what's on your list?
Is there a way to log all the stuff on start up to a text file so I can read it? It goes by way too fast! Mine shows some blue warnings but I can't read them.
To be clear I mean the part that explains what is starting or failing, like if you hit [ESC] during start up or don't have plymouth, not the plymouth splash screens.
