I mean Scott Speed was slow, so you never know
Got a bunch of friends with them, across the board everyone hates the CVT
Manuals are for the fun cars, not the dailys
Different people enjoy cars different ways. For many it’s just a tool to get from point A to point B. These are the majority, and tend to be a crowd who is now trending towards EVs and Self Driving Vehicles.
For others, driving is about the experience of how the car meets the road and is much less about the destination. I just planned a 10 hour drive with a group of my car friends with no destination, we’re just doing it to get out on some fun roads with our cars. These type of people love our manual transmissions, ICE cars and the experience of driving and see the car as less of a tool and more of a hobby and something to bring groups together.
Tbh I hate them.
They just look wrong and seem to have no background
Linux is still not viable for creative work, office work or competitive gaming, 3 of the most important uses of computers.
I’d love to see Linux be more widespread, but until I can play any game, use my required abobe products and run Microsoft office it’s pretty much a useless operating system. Open source alternatives don’t exist for many uses, or if they do they’re a significantly worse experience
Both AoTc and RoTS are just meme compilations at this point. Nearly every scene of both movies has been memed to death for years
This isn’t really a surprise. Something had to be taken off the RB car to bring them back that far into the pack. A new application of Neweys “fiddle brake” makes a ton of sense and would explain why their tyre wear has been so good all year.
Not just 50%, 51%. They wanted a controlling stake in the team. There was never any way RBR would give up control like that
Exactly this. Protests aren’t trying to make their competitors cars illegal, it’s asking the FiA for clarification on the rules, and if it’s illegal they have time to bring it back into compliance.
Zak Brown is as bad, if not worse. Plenty of dirty underhand tricks happen every year, Horner/Wolff just get shit because they were winning
100% my Lightroom libraries are a non-starter when it comes to still needing Adobe. Literally hundreds of thousands of photos from this year alone are cataloged there, and I’m not sure any of the FOSS alternatives can manage that
The way it’s worked for a few years is that the bottom half of controller players are about even with the mid tier mnk players and then the top tier controller players are better than the top tier mnk players.
It’s not an issue if you only play casually, but if you get into the high level competitive stuff it quickly becomes seen.
I wish I was bad enough to not be part of the group affected. Games would be so much more fun
This is how I’ve always felt about satisfactory. It’s so much more limiting in every way than factorio
More or less anything “Open World” and to an extent single player in general. I just get bored and ragequit every time mechanics stop being fun (which tends to be 15ish minutes into any session of them). TW3 is a big culprit here. I get about 2 hours in, the combat gets super clunky and I quit, coming back 3-4 years later thinking it might have changed.
I’ve been an FPS player since 2015 and that’s pretty much all I’ve played. Enjoyment in games for me comes from min/maxing a small to medium number of skills/abilities and applying them thousands of times in a similar gameplay loop. I’ve played well over 4,000 hours of apex legends alone, somewhere in the realm of 10,000 games and still could play more if the devs didn’t suck.
Controller is actually better in most modern FPS games due to over tuned aim assist. Gone are the days of mnk supremacy in fps games
The rumor I’ve heard, which may or may not be hearsay, is that Checo needs to be within 100 points and 5 places off Max in the WDC by Spa to keep the seat. If that’s the case it’s almost impossible for him to get there after an abysmal weekend at silverstone.
Also same, this just seems to be a rite of passage with Steam
JS and Python are both extremely bad for this. I’ve been working with data scientists and it’s hell trying to tell them that no, they can’t just install whatever libraries they want
The US. Our dominos served a 15-20 mile radius in my medium sized suburban town growing up.
Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team and Lewis Hamilton will part ways at the end of the 2024 season. Lewis has activated a release option in the contract so this season will be his last driving for the team
The team’s 2024 livery incorporates the fan-favourite elements of papaya and anthracite with a touch of chrome
This weekend I got the chance to shoot my first rallycross event. Despite literal inches of rain, it was some of the most fun I’ve had with a camera.

Hadn't seen this posted, but for anyone who uses Trading Paints in conjunction with iRacing you need to go in and change passwords NOW!
There was a leak of 270,000 accounts with emails/passwords in md5 format (easily reversible to plaintext)
If you use the service make sure to reset your passwords asap and if you use the password shared on other services you should make sure to change it as well
Anyone want to run the 24 hour race at Le Mans in iRacing this weekend?
Don't currently have an endurance team and just realized the race is coming up quick. Not super fast (like we know from the league), but pretty consistent and know the track/car well.
I'd prefer the LMP2, but could drive a GTE too. Only requirement is a C class license and the track/car.
Rig is a NLR F-GT. It's handled everything I've thrown at it so far, but it's struggling to keep up. The Seat on this rig has been ripped up by my cat, so a sweatshirt and a towel have gone into service covering up the very ripped leather. I plan on replacing the seat soon, so hopefully won't have that problem for more than another year or so.
Wheelbase is a VRS DFP. It's amazing and I love it. Packs quite a punch and does really try to rip your arms off at full FFB. This is paired with a CubeControls QR (Also known as the aliexpress one) and an Ascher F64-USB.
Pedals are also the VRS Pedals. Currently I only have 2 installed, but I do have the optional 3rd clutch that isn't mounted right now. The pedal plate flexes a lot more than I'd like, even with the additional strengthening kit from NLR.
Rig is a dedicated sim PC with a 11900K, RTX 3080 and 32GB of RAM. Triple 32 inch 1440p/144hz monitors round out the setup, mounted to a Rigmetal Monitor Stand.
I also have a Polsimer F74 that is no longer in use and a NLR GT Rim for if I need a round rim.
I'm happy to answer any querstions!

Rules
Please read the iRacing Sporting Code - This is extremely important, and will be worth the time it takes. The iRacing UI will also ask if you've read this before joining your first official session. We will follow the iRacing rules on clean racing.
Protests will be handled after races are finished, outside of extreme cases. They can be submitted privately to myself or publicly in the thread. Both parties will be able to tell their side and then 2 uninvolved members will be asked to make a decision.
Getting Started With iRacing
With some members not having use iRacing before, I felt like it would be good to add a section about getting started. This will set you up with a 1 month subscription, the UI installed, graphics configured and into a test session.
Signing up
https://www.iracing.com/membership/
The iRacing signup process offers a discount to new members, at ~40% off. This is a one time deal and if you choose to renew your membership it will be at full price. Many long term subscribers work around this by purchasing one year subscriptions during the yearly Black Friday sales.
Our league is setup that a minimum subscription of 1 month, starting on Aug. 1 will get you all the way through the season. For a new account a 1 month membership is $7.80 USD.
When you signup be sure to DISABLE the Auto-Renew subscription if you would not like to continue after the conclusion of the league.
Install the iRacing UI
When you log into the iRacing Member Website for the first time after signing up it should take you through a First Startup Guide which will guide installing the sim software, iRacing UI and any other necessary dependencies.
Graphics and Triple Monitor setup
I'm going to link to an external source on this, as Dan Suzuki has covered this really well.

Joining The League
In the sidebar of the UI select "Find a League"
Search for "Lemmy iRacing League"
If there's interest in a group practice session I'll get one going, and then I'll be available online at least an hour before each race. Please leave any questions here in the thread and I or someone else should be able to help.
In interest of scheduling I'd be looking at a 3 week league with races on Aug 5, Aug 12 and Aug 19, with a possible extra round on Aug 26 Please select ALL timeslots that you would be available. If you have another timeslot please suggest it in the Lemmy comments
Hey all,
Sorry about the google forum, it's set not to collect any info, but we all know how much info that still means google will grab.
I think that due to the spread of timezones interested we should plan to run the races on the weekend. They'd take ~30-45 minutes (Race length to be decided later) but shouldn't take more than an hour and a half maximum.
Please select any timeslots that you're available for, we'll choose the one that the most people can make.
To join the League you'll need to Search for the "Lemmy iRacing League", currently with id 10017. The correct one will link back to https://lemmy.ml/c/simracing as the website link. Request to join and I'll accept any incoming join requests.
When reading through some of the other comments on the page, I noticed there's a good number of people who at least have an iRacing subscription. Would there be any interest in a 1 month long, free content only league? It would allow people to try the sim for a minimum cost if they're interested.
A 3 week mini championship with the MX-5 Cup, Formula Ford and Street Stocks could make for a lot of fun.
I'd be happy to organize and cover hosting costs if we can get 5/10 people interested
Edit: 5 Interested, I’ll put a poll together later and we can look at running this for the month of august.
