55% of women say listening to Joe Rogan is a red flag
  • I think there were some clashes during the protests and also the movement got kinda perverted into some pseudo racist exclusivity and also had a lot of white people with white saviour complexes. There are also the folks who think that it should say All Lives Matter but they are kinda missing the point.

  • I just visited the US and I was dumbfounded how insane your city planning is. Like you literally can't just make a short shopping trip on foot. You'd have to walk half an hour to even reach basic stores because the sprawl is so bad (City in CA with about 100k inhabitants) and then there are parking spaces everywhere. Like atleast half to 2/3 of the land space is used for parking. And ofc most parking is planned so they can accomodate everyone which means they're always atleast half empty.

Unity adding a fee for devs for each time a game is installed, after certain thresholds
  • I think Godot will not win simply because Unreal is so much better for 3D games what most comercial games use. I think Godot will become the indie favourite for 2D. Where it goes from there I'm not sure. Is the revenue sharing not enough to carry the game engine? Unreal/Epic is a special case. But is Unity mismanaged so hard? It still has huge market share.

  • Rule 4: get fucked by better and cheaper products (Unreal/Godot)
Rule 5: make an obituary presentation on what went wrong (hint: it's always management)

The EU has finally won this one!
  • Lmao gtfo! Lightning COULD have been a standard if Apple wasn't so horny about stuffing their money up their walled-garden-arse. But nah you need a license to even connect to it, not to mention manufacture it. Well tough luck and good riddance to fucking Apple proprietary cables and 50.- recharging kits.

    Which one do you prefer?
  • The tersorium was shared by people using public latrines. To clean the sponge, they simply washed it in a bucket with water and salt or vinegar. This became a breeding ground for bacteria, causing the spread of disease among those using the latrines such as typhoid and cholera.

Definitely a horrendous idea and not cash money at all. I'd be carrying my own water bucket. Why not wash your ass with clean water (like India)? I'm pretty sure they also had soap then and to save soap you can also use soap water. I mean it's really not hard to have a bucket or well with soap water and use flowing water to rinse.

[meme] Trains -- not driverless cars -- are the future of transportation
  • Those markets can't run on the rich alone. And yeah it will make rural poor people poorer. That's actually also the goal. Urban sprawl should be stopped. Why do people need to build houses and villages out in bumfuck nowhere and then complain when amenities and authorties are shitty out there? These people should imo be forced to make a hard decision because if they can't afford gas anymore they will move closer to a city since the move is more affordable than paying for gas. Hence prevention of sprawl and reducing of gas use. The only people that can stay are the ones that a) are rich and b) require it for their work (e.g. farmers) or c) ones that can work locally without driving around.

How many hours a day do you actually work?
  • I believe working 2-3 days a week would actually be enough and with the right organization method would allow even crucial 24/7 positions to be manned (like nursing and care staff). Plus you'd basically never be understaffed because you'd have lots of backups.

8 hours a month sounds a bit too utopian to me.

  • What needs to happen first is fuel price needs to be so high that people are incentivized to

    a) switch to public transit no matter how shitty it is because they just can't afford a car anymore
    b) start public transit companies because there is money to be made and the oil lobbies don't have enough money anymore to lobby effectively

My guess is before 2050 nobody will really get anything done because the oil lobby is just too powerful. Would be great though.

Windows 11 vs Linux supported HW
  • Originally but afaik they rewrote basically the whole OS over the years and nothing of the original BSD remains. That's what I heard but I never verified.

Windows 11 vs Linux supported HW
  • It sucks in the way you understand and know because nothing else even exists. No one is interested in having to cater to their walled garden unless there's money to be made. Meanwhile both Linux and Windows have many open source projects and hobbyists working on things. So you might get a mac driver for something you buy but most of the time macos is an afterthought at best in many hobby projects. Also lol mac gaming is a joke. Even Linux is getting better support now than macos in that regard since the Steamdeck.

  • Haha the only thing a quantum channel does is verifying if a message has been altered (looking at a message alters it).
Actual encryption that prevents the Shor algorithm from having a linear running time have been around for quite some time now and can be easily run on normal machines. NIST is just taking its sweet time to decide on one.

There's a ton of pictures on there but it seems like there's just a wall, no possibility of registering or upload so I'm wondering how 2 million pictures came on there. This can't all be done manually by a single guy. How are pics getting on there?
