'We are essentially in a new Gilded Age’: As workers get laid off, CEOs and shareholders gobble up hundreds of billions in profits
  • I think the difference is that a school shooter is in the middle of a violent act and is an immediate threat to the lives of anybody around them. Usually the only way to put an end to the harm they're causing is to meet that violence with the same level of violence. It's not a just act, it's a tragedy, but it's ultimately necessary to prevent further injustice.

Hoarding an incomprehensible amount of resources and lobbying for a system is easier to exploit is amoral and causes harm to our society but it is not a violent act and is not an immediate threat to anybody's life.

These memes spreading violent rhetoric against a class of people this community is at odds with is starting to feel like other corners of the internet that I don't want to be involved in.

  • This violence-against-the-owning class rhetoric is going too far. Killing other humans is never justified. Tax them into oblivion and make them work for a living like the rest of us. There's a massive difference between having disdain for billionaires and wanting to kill them.

    Perfect clarity
  • I loathe this runaway capitalist system we live in just as much as the next but this violent rhetoric is getting a bit too spicy. Let's tax the owning class into oblivion. Take away their undeserved wealth and make them work for a living like the rest of us. Riot and rebel if our lives depend on it. But these calls for the outright slaughter of other human beings are going too far.

Bernie Sanders: Vote Harris because Gaza is ‘not the only issue’
  • TX at the time. Generally regarded as solidly red. However, looking at the numbers in '16 and '20, I wouldn't be surprised if everybody in the state who had either voted third-party or not at all because of the belief that their vote wouldn't make a difference would have indeed been enough to potentially flip the state.

Bernie Sanders: Vote Harris because Gaza is ‘not the only issue’
  • I was a Bernie-or-Bust-er in 2016 because I was confident Hilary was going to win with or without my vote. I deeply regret taking that stance and feel like I let down every woman who's lost rights to their bodily autonomy, every family who was separated at the border, everybody whose life was lost or ruined due to the Trump administration's incompetent response to the COVID-19 outbreak, and everybody else who has been harmed by the Trump administration.

Don't be like me. It sucks having to vote for the lesser of two evils but that's how our system works and not voting or voting third-party isn't going to change that but it does run the risk of things getting a lot worse.

Dear Americans, how do you go back to normal after such an election campaign?
  • Ah, your comment reads to me like you were emphasizing "only" day one, implying that he would relinquish that power the following day. Happy to hear you elaborate on what you meant.

  • Ah, so we're only going to be subject to the whims of a fascist dictator for the first 24 hours? What a relief! And it's a good thing he's got a track record for voluntarily and peacefully giving up power, or else I might suspect he wouldn't think twice about holding on to that power until his dying breath. /s

My pro-Trump family found out that I voted for Harris and now my brother is openly threatening to kill me. How do I get out ASAP?
  • Sadly, the local police/FBI likely aren't going to do shit for you and will only increase the risk of you getting found out by the people you're living with. I'd wait until you're out to contact them.

Your non-crazy relatives seem like your best bet, provided they're willing to put themselves between you and your potentially violent acquaintances should it come to that. Be honest with them.

Otherwise, people have suggested abuse hotlines and organizations, that's probably a good place to start. If I were in your situation and I had nowhere else to turn, I'd probably reach out to the church I went to when I grew up. I'm no longer Christian but the church I went to was exceptionally open minded and left leaning and I would trust the leaders to understand and help me how they could. Maybe you know of or could ask around about a place like that in your region? I would avoid anything within your town if possible since word is likely to get back to the people you're currently living with.

Really sorry you're in this situation. I'm all the way on the west coast but I have a network of resources in central IL if you end up there. Reach out if you can think of more ways I can help.

    How dare you...
  • She left the office of SF DA in 2011.

She left the office of CA AG in 2017.

Explain to me how she caused the problems the city is facing today. There are significant levels of crime, poverty, homeless and substance abuse going on in all major US cities, including red states. Do you also blame TX governor Greg Abbott and TX AG Ken Paxton for the elevated levels of crime, substance abuse, and homelessness Austin TX has been facing in recent years?

  • Remember "grab 'em by the pussy"? The crazy shit he says didn't make any difference then either. Remember to vote.

  • My summer squash has taken off over the last several weeks and overtaken the neighboring carrots. So I hadn't checked in on them in a while. Found a few good ones this morning!
