What uses less power for a mouse, USB dongle or Bluetooth?
  • Dongles are usually 2.4ghz radios, supposed to be lower latency and more stable than Bluetooth.

Edit- in reality though, bluetooth has come a long way and generally more convenient, users likely wouldn't notice a difference in day to day work. Personally I still wouldn't recommend gaming on a bluetooth connection when latency and micro stutters matter.

Apex Legends is taking away its support for the Steam Deck and Linux
  • What does matter though is that if we as Linux gamers want them to care, they need to see that Linux users are generating revenue. They're greedy corpos and revenue is all they give a shit about.

I appreciate you mentioning this, I agree. If linux made a blip on a chart, executives would prioritize figuring out a solution.

  • We didn't get any visits either, second year this has happened. I'm definitely cutting back how much candy I buy next year. I think parents are preferring trunk n treat or whatever controlled halloween exchanges are going on these days. Aww well, guess I'll just have to eat all this myself.

Apex Legends is taking away its support for the Steam Deck and Linux
  • I'm not sure what your point is? Perhaps I incorrectly assumed this was obvious but yes - if players do not financially support a game, even "free to play" games, those games disappear. There is not a single company on the planet that is going to continue investing in a negative revenue project for funsies. The teams working on the game are relocated to other projects or laid off, and the game shuts down.

If you believe I'm in the wrong for supporting a game that, until this point, was friendly to linux - then so be it.

  • Counterpoint - Devs need to eat. Especially devs that are thoughtful enough to enable their anti-cheat to work on Linux. So yeah, they had my attention, my support, and my money. In return I got to play a fun game and rock some cool skins and accessories - it certainly seemed like a win-win. Now they've retroactively backed out of their support, and I'd like to back out mine as well.

Help? Missing communities when I try to crosspost
  • Yeah, I can open the post in the WebUI/Browser and share that way. That's been my approach for the moment - but just community "Linux" (local) doesn't seem to appear on Voyager's list the same way. I think it's an issue with this app specifically, not lemmy or the instances.

    Thanks for taking a look!

    3
  • Hi, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but when I try to crosspost from communities on other instances (ie. Lemmy.ml/c/linux) to communities on my instance (sh.itjust.works/c/linux), the local community does not appear as an option. Even when I try to type in the fully qualified community name it will not show up.

    !

    !

This does not seem to happen with every community, and I think maybe it has something to do with a large number of results truncating smaller communities from the list?

If anyone has a workaround or can help me understand how to crosspost better, I'd much appreciate it.

Democrats Are, In Fact, Cracking Down at the Border
  • Nobody I know is asking for lax immigration policies. We want more judges to process the cases in a timely manner. We want migrants to be treated humanely during that process - given shelter, care, and not separated from their children. We want border control to have the resources necessary to deter unauthorized entry, and ensure authorized entry is available to those who need it.

These are not radical desires, it's about fixing the completely overwhelmed systems already in place. It should not take years to determine if someone was qualified to enter.

Or, we can go with trump's approach of denying everyone entry by default, detaining and separating their families, and sorting out the details never.

    > Ubuntu 24.10 is available to download and install from the official website. It ships with the Linux 6.11 kernel and the latest GNOME 47 desktop enviroment. This version switches to Wayland by default for hardware with NVIDIA graphics, matching the previous Xorg transition for Intel and AMD graphics users, and uses the open-source NVIDIA 560 kernel modules by default on supported hardware. The kernel also has kdump-tools, which enables kernel crash dumps by default. This helps streamline troubleshooting by automatically capturing critical data after a crash. > > Canonical also said in its blog post, "For gamers, significant improvements have also been made to the compatibility of the Steam snap, with an expanded permissions model and improved NVIDIA driver support. The Steam snap also bundles gaming-specific Mesa PPAs to deliver optimized performance out of the box when combined with the low latency settings enabled in the latest kernel." > > Updates are also visible in the Ubuntu Dock, which better handles Progressive Web Applications. The OpenJDK 21 and OpenJDK 17 packages in Ubuntu have also changed and are now TCK (Technology Compatibility Kit) certified on amd64, arm64, s390x, ppc64el, and armhf. Passing the TCK tests means the OpenJDK packages for version 17 and version 21 on Ubuntu are compliant with the Java SE specification for their corresponding versions.
