Degrees of Disaster
  • It's absolutely more than 10k. When was the last time you checked school prices in the US? I graduated in 2019 from a state school, and it was just under $5000 a semester (that's not including any dorms or books). Giving government paid for schooling is a hard sell in the US because, on the face of it, it feels like a regressive tax. It feels like giving money to people who are more likely to earn better money in the future and therefore shouldn't get the handout. It's hard to convince people to think about it one step further and realize those educated people who now make more will now pay more in taxes. Education gives great returns on investment for the government.

Boeing-made communications satellite breaks up in space
  • Orbits and their height are determined by the speed the object is moving at. Getting into orbit isn't about getting something very high, it's about getting it moving very fast. Geostationary height is the height that the object is moving at the same rotational speed as the body it's orbiting. Any lower or higher and it won't be geostationary anymore.

'Dead heat': Trump pulls even with Harris in NBC News poll
  • No, it started after the debate. The DNC told her to abandon her working rhetoric of "not going back." And they told Walz to stop using the weird moniker, which was the first negative connotation that ever really stuck to Trump. It's like they not only don't want to support actual progressive ideas that people actually want, but they also don't want to win.
