  • I don't want to say it's a lost cause... But I'm not sure how to address it either. You're absolutely right that the casual sexism is rampant here, and to my mind it's about 50% from less moderation overall and 50% the type of personalities that are willing to seek out less popular and less user friendly services. I left reddit for a reason, but lemmy isn't nearly as polished. That demographic is always going to skew neckbeardy.

  • Not quite emails, but its the same idea....

My mother will walk all around the house with her phone blaring some 30+ minute tiktok ad. She is fully aware that it is an ad, but something at the start promised an answer to .... something... and now she HAS to know what it is. She complains about having to wait so long to get to the end and calls everything in the middle nonsense, and the answer she always gets is "buy thing X" but.... she does it anyways. A lot. She isn't super interested in actually watching documentary since that requires paying attention, and with this she can just set it to the side while washing dishes or something.

We've given up on telling her that ads exist to sell things, she views them as "mini biased documentaries" which... I suppose is sorta accurate. But it still confuses the hell out of me.

  • Might makes right.

    My might makes me right.

This senator would beat anyone who disagrees or is critical of him. And worse yet, he sees nothing wrong with this idea. It's abject danger to have him be the voice of constituents, he has no desire to improve society, but to inflict his will upon it.

  • Bill Maher is the villain Bill Maher used to complain about. Now he brings nothing to the table besides complaining things aren't as they used to be. His past was right, and our future is wrong.

  • Mullins (R-OK) repeatedly defended his actions. The former MMA fighter and a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame panned O’Brien to reporters as a β€œthug,” said he’s been β€œrunning his mouth forever” and β€œprobably should have [his] butt whupped.”

    Over a tweet...

    Embarrassing and straight up sad.

  • Something something must protect the children is generally how these arguments go. Never mind that cis male are the overwhelming majority of child abusers.

  • You deserved better.

Baena was found with 20 lacerations from a shaving razor, including one to the neck that was likely fatal.

You deserved so much, but from all the fear and hate, we have this. We have the only thing those emotions can produce, violence.

    Rest in power.

  • Children's classrooms....

Heaven forbid a child be near a trans person. They could catch it!

    πŸ™„ πŸ™„ πŸ™„

You're not protecting anyone with this, devoid of reality, biology, statistics of who attack children and scientific studies on trans athletes, you are simply taking an opportunity to persecute. This is exactly the type of fear mongering nonsense I was talking about.

  • Trans people are asking for nothing more to be respected, have access to health care and ideally to stop being hate crimed. But these basic facilities are threatened by those who need an "boogey monster other" to demonize for political points. Gender is such a given to most people that we as Trans people threaten their world view simply by existing outside of a narrow binary. Many feel justified in exerting control over our bodies, purely because our existence is too much of a nagging open question that threatens their worldview.

    I'm here.
    I'm queer.
    And I'm filled with fear.

  • The symbol that actual white nationalists still do at their rallys? Origins don't matter in terms of how it's actively used by groups, Whinnie the Pooh is either a loveable bear or a critique of the Chinese goverment. Mac Tonight is an McDonald's mascot or a racist. A swastika is either Nazis or good luck to Hindus.

All sorts of groups latch on to cultural touchstones.

  • I really don't see the appeal of paperbooks anymore. Ebooks are infintly more practical. Lightweight and easily fillable with endless content. Why would I ever want to lug around a single novel when I can just slide my entire library in my purse?

  • I've heard from an optometrist that Amazon paperlites solve the eye strain issue. Specfically asking "Why do you hate your eyes?" when I told him I read via a tablet.

The only downside is giving Amazon money...

  • This is very much a good thing. It's a bit of a trope at this point that saying "trans" makes people assume "Male-to-Female". You'll find no shortage of trans mascs complaining about the erasure. Let 'em have the spotlight for once.

  • "Sir, this is a time; this is a place. You want to run your mouth? We can be two consenting adults. We can finish it here."

    • Sen. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., stopped the altercation from happening, yelling at Mullin: β€œStop it! No, no, sit down! You know, you’re a United States senator."

Markwayne was upset about a fuckin tweet. Shame on Oklahoma for voting him in. This is what you get from a MMA fighter, he tries to fight people. πŸ˜‚

  • It's amazing that so many trans people experience homelessness when they also live rent free in bigots head.

  • It's not a question of policy. Republicans literally killed people last election trying to overthrow democracy.

Not that I even like democrats, but anyone who votes red after Jan 6th is fundamentally an enemy of democracy.
