Density saves nature
  • Yes.

As someone who is sensitive to noise, I hated the lack of adequate standards regarding wall thickness and/or sound proofing. And the mail thief.

Results from the Browser Features Survey
  • Really? Performance-wise, Firefox on Android runs great for me. No battery drain.

It is lacking in a lot of features though.

Noise Pollution ruins quality of life
  • I agree with you, and I absolutely don't wish harm or accidents to anyone on a motorcycle.

A guy in my neighborhood just bought a motorcycle. He doesn't rev it up or try to be inconsiderate, but just the act of twisting the throttle to drive away at a slow speed violates the city noise ordinance and can be heard for a half mile or more.

Noise Pollution ruins quality of life
  • New Rule: if the motorcycle you purchased exceeds noise ordinance levels for a given area, said motorcycle cannot be sold, driven, or registered in that area, nor can it be parked in a public parking spot in that area.

Honestly though, I wish police would simply enforce noise ordinances and anyone with more than one violation would have their bike impounded.

Florida school district must restore books with LGBTQ+ content under settlement
  • Did the settlement include criteria or guidelines for other books the district is not allowed to ban going forword? Otherwise what's to stop them from banning any other books they don't like?

Why are people on the internet (and Lemmy) so quick to say someone "deserves to die"
  • I think you are right. I wanted to add that often times people will have a strong sense of justice or revenge and want to see something bad happen to a person who did bad things.

Other times when people call for someone's death, it's because they don't believe that there is any other way to stop the harm that person is causing. This tends to be the case when political figures start violating the civil and human rights of their constituents.

Jill Stein is a plant to nobody's surprise.
  • The answer is that Jill Stein is almost none of the things that people are accusing her to be in this thread. She didn't tell anyone to vote for Trump over democrats. She isn't Putin's puppet or a Russian spy just because she had dinner at the same table as Putin once. She never was anti-vax (i think she said people should be allowed the freedom to choose for themselves). She isn't a spoiler candidate and voting for her isn't a vote for trump.

All this shit is propaganda that's worked very well on democrats in the US.

Leading smartphone vendor in each country
  • Yeah this is my solution. I run Bluebubbles on my Android phone and have the bluebubbles server running on an old mac mini.

This was a huge part of me being able to switch back to Android after being on iPhones for 6 years.

Madrid to ban e-scooters for reckless driving and chaotic parking
  • I agree with the city on this one. Until the issues regarding user safety, reckless driving, maintenance, and proper storage locations are addressed and solved, e-scooters should not be rented out like this.

"Quick" security check... I had to do 15 of these...
  • Yeah, the person who thought this up should be forced to do it for 24 hours straight, with only 10 seconds for each guess, and for every one he gets wrong, five minutes gets added to his time.

The Internet Archive just lost its appeal over ebook lending
  • Yeah. In a better world where the US court system doesn't get weaponized and rulings aren't delayed for years or decades, I would argue 8 to 15 years is the reasonable number, depending on the type of information being copyrighted.
