'We can't do computer graphics anymore without artificial intelligence. We compute one pixel, we infer the other 32': Jensen thinks AI is integral to next-gen graphics tech
  • Perhaps, we should be more concerned with maintaining and keeping relevant current hardware, over constant production of more powerful hardware just for the sake of doing it. We've hit a point of diminishing returns in terms of the value we're actually being given by each new generation. Even the PS4 and Xbox One were able to produce gorgeous graphics.

Amazon Bans Its Drivers From Moving Their Own Lips Too Much At Work [Update]
  • Amazon requires a camera system called a netradyne driveri in all vans - that's what they're referring to. It uses AI to monitor what you're doing and automatically send reports when it thinks you've done something wrong.

Drivers Hate The Tech In Their Cars
  • I drive an EV for work, any my biggest gripe is the touchscreen. What is wrong with buttons. Why must everything be hidden behind a menu I have to navigate on a touchscreen. It feels less safe, frankly. In my own car I have muscle memory for each button and can do things like skip songs or adjust the AC without looking away from the road... But in the EV I can't.

405 Freeway: Gaza protesters block traffic in West Los Angeles
  • Not everyone can just ship themselves off to DC and like, shut down infrastructure. Let alone travel internationally. Being in a financial position where you can do that is an incredibly privileged position to be in. We have to do what we can, where we are to make change - and for people living in LA that means protesting in LA. A lot of protesting IS about visibility, and doing it so you can be noticed is far from pointless! Blocking traffic anywhere in this country is directly making sure that you and your message cannot be ignored.

405 Freeway: Gaza protesters block traffic in West Los Angeles
  • What's happening in Gaza is being directly funded by all of our taxes, there's not a particular location that the protesting needs to be done, it just needs to be done.

Can someone explain why so many people here are FOR blocking Threads.net on a server level?
  • I went to fedi to avoid big corporations and what they've done with social media. Why would I want their platform having access to my posts? I don't trust meta or any of the other big tech companies. In fact, the main mastodon instance I use blocks threads entirely and that's one of the reasons I joined it.

Android users, what's stopping you from switching to an iPhone?
  • I don't make very much money, and the phones I buy are usually between $100-200. The only way to do that with iphone is to get a phone that's both old and used. There's no new options in that price range at all. However, even if there was, or if I just bought used, it doesn't offer me any benefit to swap. My experience with ios was never very good back when I did use it, it restricts how you can use your phone really heavily. I love being able to install apps from F-droid or my web browser, and changing launchers gives you a lot of customization of your home screen. I also really value that once your android device isn't supported with software updates anymore, the community can still develop up to date android versions for those devices so you can use newer versions of android than the manufacturers intended

Why are Republicans/Conservatives embracing fanaticalism these days?
  • I think it's important to question the idea that the US has "always rejected fanaticism". Sure, our state doesn't want to be viewed that way. I just think that looking at our history shows a lot of fanatic shit, from the way settlers treated the native population, to all of our conflicts in the 1900's to now.

    Is PopOS better than Ubuntu?
  • It's hard to make direct "better" or "worse" comparisons between distros. Each has it's advantages and disadvantages. They're really similar and offer similar beginner-friendly experiences. I disliked that popOS doesn't use Grub, I ran into issues getting the bootloader to show my windows drive.

Embracer Boss Mulls Increasing the Price of Video Games Beyond $70 - IGN
  • It's not even that everybody is going to stop buying games new, but especially given how tight money is for a lot of people right now, pushing the prices further up will force a lot of people to pursue alternatives for all but the releases they care the most about. I think enough people won't buy more expensive games that these companies will not see the increased profits they expect from raising the prices.

Embracer Boss Mulls Increasing the Price of Video Games Beyond $70 - IGN
  • I feel like all that will happen is players will continue to move to non-AAA alternatives, or wait longer periods for discounts, or maybe platforms like game pass where they can just play a lot of the new games right away just by having the sub. $70 alone is already very expensive.
