Anon discovers what self improvement means
  • I'm going to go a bit against the trend here and say that his main issues are probably a lack of social opportunities (he's probably some kind of techbro living in a sausage factory) and an inability to play his part in terms of making the moves.

If it necessitated a good personality to attract women, as you all on here seem to believe, the world would be a much better place than it really is. And I also find it ironic that the implication is that women are somehow the better sex that is above the same ugly worldviews that a man might have. Again, I do not see any evidence for that. Think of the most evil man along any dimension and he had a woman or multiple ones.

A lot of the EU consumer protection laws are actually financial compensation door stops in favour of big corps.
  • The crux of the matter is that these "consumer protect laws" often release the party with the most leverage from liability i.e. they protect the party with the most leverage from ever being held accountable for doing something really damaging to the other party. And their justification for this, is giving you a pittance as compensation.

How you do it is by simply retaining liability for damages caused, i.e. by not trying to short circuit the justice system.

Do you know what happens when the airline does not follow even the laws that are there on the books in their favour? In that case you are first advised to seek justice from a private arbitration court, i.e. they are again trying to avoid the actual legal system. Seems like a pattern.

  • Unnecessary pedantry. There are clearly cases where being denied boarding and a delayed flight will result in financial losses of upwards of whatever pittance they give you in exchange. And the court system is there precisely to calculate the actual incurred financial loss, and the law protects the corporations from this liability.

Live updates: Biden ends his 2024 bid
  • I don't really trust Buttigieg not to be a sell out, but of all the ones being named, he's the one with the rhetorical chops to stand up to Trump. But maybe Trump will flat out refuse a second debate.

Children as young as 7 'arrested' by German police at Gaza demos
  • Immigrant who lives in Germany here. This post is a bunch of lies. On this topic there are a lot of politically motivated astroturfers who take over whole comment sections to push their false narratives.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez warns anti-Biden Democrats about what comes next if they succeed
  • OK, but all of this is only relevant if you believe Biden in his current state is able to win against Trump. The people who want Biden out believe that Biden stands no chance.

    British cuisine is like...
  • OK, I come from southern Europe and this will blow some people's minds, but sometimes we have bland food on purpose. Especially after a week of eating grease/spicy foods.

    What is Catholic Integralism?
  • American Catholicism might as well be a new Protestant sect. Catholicism does not really work like this. And the last three points don't really fit in with Catholic social teaching. I think the article should make clear that this "Catholicism" is really a subset of American Catholics and nothing more. Nothing to do with the Vatican, the Pope, and the Catholics in Europe, Latin America and elsewhere. Also, generally the Church supported liberal political parties especially when the alternative was socialist/communist, so to say that Catholicism is against liberalism is incorrect.

A European Citizens Initiative wants to introduce a Wealth Tax (and they need your help)
  • Sorry, but you're not going to get von der Leyen and Metsola to "tax the rich".

Plus, I don't trust any of those people to tax the real rich, but I could easily see them levy a new tax on us.

32 percent of Americans believe a military regime or authoritarian leader would be a good way of governing the country.
  • Here's the problem with your partisanship. If you give a party your unconditional support, then they have no reason to cater to your needs. All they have to do is just to be slightly better than the alternative. Which is exactly the current situation and which is also exactly what makes the Democratic party today so unattractive. For the independent electorate it's feels as though they are being coerced into voting Democrat. That's not good for anyone.
