Pros and cons for an extra phone number (dual Sim)
  • ESIM using silent.link = a phone line that can only be used to receive messages and calls no outbound calls allowed. However you need a phone with esim support.

Physical sim on another device: great but you need a seperate hardware and have something extra to carry and charge.

Physical sim on a dual sim phone. Easier to carry however it runs the battery faster and sometimes you can forget which sim you are on if you are quickly calling or texting.

Mains sim plus VoIP line example is mysudo- use one phone, seperate your communication between your actual number and an app with VoIP. Seperate phones # via software since VoIP is all on app side. Requires you have an internet connection to work properly. Not all services are happy using VoIP and stop you from registering or changing numbers to VoIP.

Lots to think about, best of luck.

Anyone else hyped for the upcoming Ranma ½ remake?
  • I am excited about it, however I also was sad the original one wasn't finished. I'm also curious how they handle deploying it for obvious reasons. The one I loved watching over and over was watermelon island, threw me for a loop. Also I love the design of characters from that era.

Why you should (probably not) run Slackware
  • It does also have third party repos such as sbopkg. This does a bunch of the movement for you when installing packages though you still need to manually install dependencies, BUT If you also add sboui which is a front end package resolution for dependencies then the process is much faster. I like the stability of Slackware, and also because its helps me get better for when I try the BSD since its very much like them as well.

Fantasy anime with magical cozy feeling
  • Chillin' in My 30s After Getting Fired from the Demon King's Army is a good one to watch. Its sits in the middle between light hearted and has some sad moments but they are not dwelled on for too long.

Privacy@Lemmy.ml: Should I get a phone number through the US lifeline program to use on websites and businesses?
  • I would have suggested silent.link , while you can get a number not tied to your identity via esim, the main focus of numbers is a receiver for text and calls(also because it avoid people creating spam phone calls/txt). Which was originally for 2fa that only had cell # as an option. Also a number requires the user to be vigilant in paying their annual for it or they can lose the number. Also I think they can only cater for users in US, Canada and maybe UK.

    Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
  • What i love about this show is what happens after the story ends. Lots of story have this ending of epic quest, but i always wonder, does your happily ever after last forever? Thats when Frieren takes the direction to answer those questions. I love the approach, everyone loves conflict and major problems. Very few shows actaully go on to talk about what happens after "peace" in a more world view.

Hey yall! My first post and I just finished the first season of the Lego company’s Monkey kid and it was great! Now I can watch season 2, MK,s design reminded me of goku, and the person who voices Mk
  • I watched this too a while back. Love the design and the performance of the characters on the show. Very surprised to here goku voice actor as MK, but i thought that was a genius move. One thing i epsecially liked was the antagonist, solid and a good story. The pacing was also great. It such an underated show. Im planning on buying the blue ray copy.

    [EPISODE] 02: Candy Carrier Chaos!
  • I watched it and kept rewinding during episodes to see if i missed anything. Everything about it was great. Sound design, voice, and graphics. Also liked that even though pomni shows concern about her situation, she has some grit as she gave sass to jak when he tossed her over. Also, you can't mention the bit about gangle's secret that jak brought up about ragatha. I want to see it now. Splitting between scenes, the pace of the gang on the adventure vs pomni with gummigoo was nicely performed storywise.

I'm giving up — on open source - Blog
  • I dont blame em for going with that decision. Maintainer/devs are also wearing customer service/ PR and bookeeping hat on top of the things they build. Things cost money, especially time, call it greedy or not but people have to pay housing and food. Its tough and similar to a lot of industries, nobody cares until something goes wrong. All the best to this person 👍

Frieren Knocks Full Metal Alchemist Out of the Top Spot on Both MAL and ANN
  • This is one show i finished recently. Its increadibly well done. Story telling is great, character development is awesome. I have also watched FMAB, these 2 are completely different in that FMAB is a greater volume of development among many charcter, which isnt a fair comparison by the amount of seasons availalble compared to Frieren. Hopefully Frieren expands so that i can see how it ends, because that is my favorite part of FMAB, its got a great ending.

Am I the only one who's sick of the isekai?
  • I watched the one isekai with the vending machine. I have keep watching if it goes anywhere. Its 6/10, its interesting but not impactful in its storyline. Information was spitting out similar to doctor stone on the type of machines that exist in the world.

A good one that has some good storytelling was Grimgar, Aahes & Illusion. Talk about more realistic approach and pace for just 12 episodes.

    How to inspire someone
  • Several things with this.

    1. introducing programing and linux are two seperate things, though they do bridge when running linux, it would be asking em to learn one or the other. ( offer something already easy linux distro, to learn linux passively while focusing on programing.

    Resources:

Learn linux TV - playlist available for linux and programing

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxQKHvKbmSzGMvUrVtJYnUA

Unfa - learn linux and music production

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAYKj_peyESIMDp5LtHlH2A

Good audio recording program thats free Ardour ( if he becomes good and makes a living on it, pls donate to the devs)

    Learn programing for free Freecodecamp.org

If you are in the US. Ask the college/university for taking walk ins for classes. They allow you to attend classes for free to check out if you want to be a student. Depending on the school there will be no limit. ( honestly tech fields are mostly certifications and experience; a degree with student loans not necessary)

Local library, ive found books for programing languages to check out, use the cities resources.

    Conclusion

All these options mean nothing unless the person does it and applys. You need to accept that no matter how much you suggest/guide/offer , that at the end of the day the choice is theirs. Especially at an age that wants to figure things out on their own.

    Best of luck.

AV Technicians - Has the Zoom hype calmed down?
  • This is still true, after 6 months after my post hybrids still a viable option. I have seen a shift on the way in person meetings change, but this is for those workin on certain areas. An example is large scale marketing, have moved to hybrids on day to day operations especially if the company does international level of work. They have gone to in person meetings as special events for team building. Before the pademic, in person meeting was the norm and happening more frequently not just for team building but for actual campain for projects.

  • Thats good, congrats, it does get difficult to start an actual friendship, there are a lot of people i talk with but I dont use friends as those relationships because it hasnt evolved to that aspect. Maintaining them is very important though, otherwise one side can get burnt out with putting in more of the effort. All the best to your continued success.

  • One things for sure is that it involved minors, which means any kind of lawsuit would instantly involve the parents, who i cant see taking it well that their familys corpses were tampered with, regardless of what the individual girls/boy say. However as much as we can emulate our culture/laws, it is a show, yeah there are "doesnt make sense moments" which can be boiled down to, example, the policeman is vain and an idiot that he just doesnt process it. However thats why the inspector is brought into the mix to fill those missing pieces on their background. The lids gonna blow up, the question is when.

I Messed Up and Watched the AoT Summary Movies (Only the 1st Three) and Regretted it, What Scenes Were Cut Out from These Movies?
  • I have not watched this, but let me tell you my experience with watching re zero as it had the original, directors cuts and specials on crunchyroll. Which i watched all of em. If the show is overall good enough, every version has a little something extra to contribute to the experience.

Why are they remaking Spice and Wolf?
  • Full metal alchemist was spedrun on brotherhood but really only the beginning. So i dont see it approached in the same manner, also because the world of both (fma and and wolf)are much too different. Maybe they will do it like fruits basket. Hopefully bring in the og cast(i havent read up on it to see this being true or not) and continue it like that. However the approach, its got enough attention to get the previous fans talking about it and new people interested in it. So whatever is being done, its at least working to some degree. Plus to the new crowds, its different in a sense to what has been told recently.

  • I just thought it was funny. And i hope to see a new version of this someday.

So not too long ago i had a gig; i went in with the expectation of just setting up several breakouts with simple projector and audio support. What actually happened is the op was running late and I had to take over a room with 4 mics, 2 speakers and 2 projectors that was not rung out & 15 min left before show time. I spent my entire shift riding multiple faders to avoid feedback with a board that had the previous show setup from a different group. Had to come back to op again on the same room, so the day before i left, i zeroed the board, rung the room and now its all nicely grouped to a single fader for control. Not complaining, but the situation gave me a good laugh.

I'm looking for a good belt with shoulder straps. The tools get pretty heavy so I have to tighten the belt to the point it gets uncomfortable. Anyone got a recommendation? Also good gloves that give good movement but strong enough to withstand lighting heat.

    Tools I recommend

    • husky twin hex tools set. Come in metric and imperial - uses( weird drape hardware and TV mounts)
    • c wrench - there is a debate for 6 or 8 inch due to leverage but I go 6 cause its already a lot of weight when carrying
    • interchangeable bit screwdriver( harbor freight sells one with thick and narrow flat head/phillips bits[double sided] )
    • leatherman multitool- personal preference on the model is based on the tech.
    • USB to multi cable out - comes in handy for data transfer/ charging.
    • fastfold clip tool- I hate fastfolds, this makes me hate them less.
    • small cleanex wipes/hand sanitizer. For quick breaks when you want to snack without dirty hands.
    • box cutter/knife
    • pen and small notepad( I prefer paper over writing it on my phone.)
    • magnetic light
    • Magnetic extension stick
    • tool belt pouch with tape chain
    • permanent marker
    • electricity probe - test if there is power running in a cable/outlet witbout connecting it to a device.

Im pretty sure there is more but these are usually my main ones.

Ive worked with digital boarda and analoge boards. It seems more work to do anlouge boards and i just realized why. If one long run is bad, id have to rerun that line. If i got a digital board with a stage box, quick switch. Bad etherent? (Change the line, bad box?( change the box). Maybe i should suggest portable stage boxes universal for any board in case i do analogue run again.

    Hello all,

I am purchasing my first bike and as I don't have much knowledge of extensive maintenance & insurance I wanted to know what experiences you all had in this.

Im hoping to hit these checkmarks.

    • cruiser
    • reliable
    • parts are cheap and available even 3rd party
    • insurance is reasonable for the bike.
    • easy to maintain for newbie starting out.

I was going to go for a honda but figured to ask others their experience as they were starting out and what they have learned. Under 500 cc I believe is a good starting point, I am not trying to launch into space but if you got a reason why that shouldn't matter let me know.
