Sound Off: How many 10+ year redditors have left the site?
  • Should be 10 years soon. I honestly haven't had any issues personally, but spez fell really low with his claims and decisions and I don't like the corporate stink. Better do something before it does affect me personally, and help the Fediverse grow.

    Scientific Method
  • At best this is flipped, and at worst it just doesn't fit. The "fuck around" part is the experimentation, and "find out" the conclusions made from that experience. Still, the concept is more about doing stuff without much premaditation and just seeing what happens.

What are some things you do to make being productive easier when unmotivated and lethargic?
  • It really depends. Sometimes it's actually more productive to just rest, or if it's because of a specific issue then fix that. I don't struggle with being productive in general, but if you're not legitimately tired or having symptoms of physical or mental health issues, then the best thing to do is set up an environment where it's more costly to be unproductive than being productive. Put your phone or other distractions away so you can't see or reach them.

Op-ed: Why the great #TwitterMigration didn’t quite pan out
  • That's a very interesting and useful read, albeit also really long, but worth it. I think that the mindset of people coming from Reddit (myself included) is different than the people from Twitter. Reddit itself is a weird paradoxical "huge niche" of people who tend to be less conforming and slightly more educated on tech. However, it is true that the Fedi community should make some compromises to really be welcoming and support newcomers, and the tecnical side should change to make it more viable in the aspects that this post outlined. Perhaps some under the hood optimizations and centralization compromises where smaller instances can depend on bigger ones like a tree instead of connecting to every single other instance.

My point is, the Fediverse will probably never be mainstream, but has a shot at being "big enough". However this shot depends significantly on the people running it and the community at large making compromises at least as big as the ones newcomers make when joining to find a middle ground, which may not happen.
