Linkin Park reunites with 7 years after Chester Bennington's death, with new music
  • Did you even read your own link?

But uh, is Armstrong a Scientologist?

That’s the big question! Armstrong has never publicly identified with the Church of Scientology, though she did attend a gala in 2013.

The "evidence" is that she attended a gala over a decade ago? I'm not saying she's not a scientologist, but a celebrity attending a single event over a decade ago doesn't make them a member of the group.

Linkin Park reunites with 7 years after Chester Bennington's death, with new music
  • Thanks for the link! I agree - a few songs there were some notable "slumps" compared to what I would have expected from Chester, but there were also some parts that came across a little better? She has a great voice for the singing parts, and a really respectable scream.

Waiting for the End almost made me cry.

  • apnews.com Linkin Park reunite 7 years after Chester Bennington's death, with new music

The band kicked off a livestream showcasing new singer Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain, who will join returning members in Linkin Park’s new lineup.

As someone who grew up loving Linkin Park, I am hesitantly excited. The single they released is actually pretty good - The Emptiness Machine.

  • Fair enough. Probably one of those areas where Ds and Rs agree, but for different reasons.

Like when you say "America is going in the wrong direction" and Ds are like "yeah, we're moving rightward and closer to a Christian theocracy and it sucks" and Rs are like "yeah, we're moving leftward and toward a woke secular communist state"

I guess it just struck me as gross because we have like significantly more people locked up in the US than any other country on earth.

  • Only 34% of Americans and barely over half of Harris supporters believing in Trans rights is pretty fucking depressing.

61% believing the criminal justice system is too lenient? What the fuck?

63% believing the government should ensure health care (including 1/3 of republicans) is encouraging at least.

Over half of both parties (55%D, 76%R) believe the US should be the world's only superpower. Barf.

    America really sucks sometimes.

[Discussion] In your view, is Kamala Harris a "spry and progressive" candidate for President?
  • Spry, fuck yes.

Progressive, in a lot of ways yes. Even just looking at what her and Biden have accomplished, pushing and pushing for student loan reform, climate action, judges, drug costs, infrastructure, cannabis reform (off the top of my head), it's a lot more than we've gotten from some other administrations.

Obviously there are always ways she could be MORE progressive for my taste, and she's not an AOC or Bernie, but she's good uh... well, progress.

Green Party candidate files to join U.S. Senate race
  • Wow, so surprising they would pick one of the most hotly contested senate races in the country with a vulnerable incumbent Democrat. Total coincidence I'm sure, and not at all an effort to help the Republican.

The green party cares about the environment man.

It's just that it's the political environment. Fucking trash.

  • Haha, I love the phrasing "in talks for kids", negotiations are going well I hope! It's such a commitment- my wife really wanted kids but I wasn't so sure. We always had another thing before we could start and eventually we agreed on just having one. The way the world is, we really wanted to make sure we could commit our focus and energy on her. Now that she's here I couldn't imagine it any other way - she's as much of part of my life as I am, it feels like.

Crunch time in ‘veepstakes’ as Kamala Harris prepares to choose running mate
  • Mark Kelly is super moderate - that's the only negative thing about him as far as I know. It's possible his moderation was more about being elected in AZ and he might be free to be more left-leaning if he were on a national stage, but that's like... not usually how it goes.

For Pete, it's more of an "electibility" question - whether him being a gay man would turn off some voters? I would love to think we're passed that on the left, but it's an untested assumption.

And just to be clear, Pete and Mark are actually my top picks for VP, on a personal level. I'm just playing Trump's advocate for the sake of discussion.

  • apnews.com Court agrees to block collection of Trump's $454 million civil fraud judgment if he puts up $175M

If former President Donald Trump posts the money, it will prevent the state from seizing his assets while he appeals.

    > A New York appeals court on Monday agreed to hold off collection of former President Donald Trump’s $454 million civil fraud judgment — if he puts up $175 million within 10 days.

    > If he does, it will stop the clock on collection and prevent the state from seizing his assets while he appeals.

    Delay. Delay. Delay.
