  • Fuck trump and all that, but reasonably, going to the site of any incident is just for photo ops. Fuck all the trash that does that. It's just as stupid as sending reporters out into a hurricane wind so they can say, "The wind is really starting to pick up, Dave-in-the-comfy-news-room-700-miles-away, and we can hear the waves pounding louder now."

Can you imagine how things would go down if you did get donny on a boat and it capsizes in cold, flowing water?

  • It's all about who you can say it to. As much as elmo is probably trying to change it, right now the dystopian future of shadowrun hasn't appeared, and the various governments are still the big dogs in the pound. See brazil for a recent example. Even apple, famously trying to thwart regulations, has eventually caved to the EU on the charger issue, as another example.

  • they believe it’s every believers duty to give people opportunity to repent hence going door to door (I think they’ve stopped doing this now) or standing on the street offering their standard magazine “Awake”

They now stand outside places, like a university a few miles away from me, and have incredibly idiotic stands meant to take advantage of people going through hard times.

they practice ‘shunning’ family and church members who won’t repent of sin which sees some parents totally rejecting their children, people acting like people don’t exist if they see them on the street. (Again to be fair, this is what the new testament tells Christians to do). For this they (rightly) get flak for being cultish and overly controlling

They do far more than that to be considered cultish. The elders of an area have a large degree of input on things like marriage, for instance, which goes hand in hand with men moving their new wives to areas far away from any family. Combine that with the typical cult emphasis on only socializing with people in the cult, and you've got a beautiful combination to keep women oppressed and without options. I've had to sit and listen to a poor woman come to terms with leaving everything, adult children included, behind and hope that her family would still help her after 30 years, because she had no other means of support. It was horrifying, because even the resources I was trying to pair her with wouldn't be enough to help.

  • Huh, well, that's an odd route you've forced my brain to take this morning. I'm now having to wonder... dogs and cats drink by lapping up liquids as adults. They don't really have lips like humans do. How do they suckle as infants?

  • It's amusing to me that there isn't all that much difference between panels three and four. Orders still have to be passed down the chain to the people doing the work, so there are still at least six people immediately below the jackass.

  • What are they going to do, run out and attack a street pole? [Suburbia]

What are they going to do, run out and get kicked by a cow, then said cow has some lovely pooping moments on their stunned form? [Ruralia]

What are they going to do, run out and jump on a taxi, or their neighbor walking home? [Urbania]

I doubt that most people would run out and start the revolution. Most people won't have plans or be researching targets, which would lower their threshold for starting a revolution, because it's easier to do something if you know how you're going to do it. Anyone who has plans or targets isn't going to be fooled by you saying a revolution has started. Most people are juuuust comfortable enough to not want to go out to the street and start randomly fighting.

  • the real problem for me with the 5/5 wasn't that I couldn't handle the spice. The spice was amazing, and actually added to the flavor, unlike many. What was the issue was how long it took to eat it because you have to manage how much you have in your mouth so it doesn't overwhelm you. Luckily my buddy wasn't closely watched for his 'hour long' lunch break.

  • Eh, I have similar feelings, but there is a reason for the wedding price increase. As a florist once told me, there's a reasonable amount of 'oops' that can happen with a regular customer, and they're often accommodating. Only 11 roses came to the door on valentine's day, but they ordered 12? An apology and a discount is often more than enough to make the customer happy. If a bride doesn't get a perfect flower arrangement, it's already too late.

Extend that to the other sorts of merchants you'll be dealing with at a wedding, and look at the cost increase as buying super, ahead-of-time insurance to ensure that everything is perfect. For something like the cake or photos, that means you have to dedicate more time or resources than usual to make sure absolutely nothing goes wrong (enough to notice). Two photographers instead of the single photographer for a corporate shindig, three cakes baked just in case one of them turns out slightly flat, that sort of thing.

  • On the older, non-silicone CPR models, the foam has the exact same texture as these nerf balls. How do I know? Because one of the idiots in the CPR class decided he was a real man and real men go after foam CPR model tits.

  • Hmm, just spitballing here, but what could you point to on an elephant that's unique (and/or in the public thoughts of elephants)? Memory, size, trunks, large ears, grey skin, tusks, fear of mice, (name of them?) pachyderm?

For memory - Because they're the only animal that can remember how to score a strike?

Trunks - Because their trunks have room to spare?

Size - Because even the lions aren't willing to tell them they crossed the line.

Mice thing - Because they always beat the mice's half ounce balls.

Or maybe it's something to do with bowling? Turkeys, lanes, (heavy/big balls), spares, lines, shoes...

Shoes - Because they can finally borrow shoes that fit?

Turkeys - Even elephants love getting turkeys?

    Spares - I dunno
