If you're in the US, how are you preparing for the election and dealing with the stress?
  • A combination of this and avoiding political news and discussion altogether (as much as I can anyway).

What's the point of reading, discussing and/or arguing when in the end the only thing that matters is your vote (and money/time if you're able and so inclined).

The news tries to rile you up, and all I really need to know is who won once the election happens, until then I'm avoiding it.

A Desktop for All (How to turn Gnome OS into a serious OS)
  • I’m not against having multiple options and don’t expect Gnome OS to be identical to Silverblue.

I was just pointing out that a distro with the listed goals of GNOME, Flatpak, Robust, Immutable, Secure, Modern, Flexible and Opinionated already exist in Silverblue.

How do you battle depression by your own?
  • I found the book "Feeling Good" by Dr. David Burns to be extremely helpful. It teaches you the most common method therapists use (cognitive behavior therapy). Like therapy, you need to continually practice it for it to be useful.

Practicing mindfulness can also be very beneficial.

If it's available in your area, Ketamine therapy (not recreational ketamine) has been shown to act as a rapid antidepressant. In the US, there are at home ketamine providers that you can consult online. There's a popular low-dose provider that includes provider visits and medication for $129/month, if you qualify.

Marissa Mayer's Yahoo Journey: She Confess What Went Wrong, and The Lessons She Learnt
  • What went wrong was greed. They should have sold to Microsoft when it was offering them a ridiculous amount of money for a business that was already on the decline.

A few years later they sold themselves for about $5 Billion, which was only around 10%-11% of Microsofts final offer.

What is your linux backup strategy?
  • I use Bluebuild to create a reproducible system, plus a post-install script to handle other post-install tasks such as setting up initial preferences.

Also Vorta to backup files and settings to external HD, plus OneDrive Linux client to sync files and settings to cloud.

Mozilla removes uBlock Origin Lite from Addon store. Developer stops developing Lite for Firefox; "it's worrisome what could happen to uBO in the future."
  • I think this is what's happening.

If Google loses appeals, Mozilla (and many other browsers that rely heavily on getting their revenue from Google), will have to find new ways to generate revenue. Unfortunately, they seem to be looking for the easiest way out, and that's selling out their users.

The air begins to leak out of the overinflated AI bubble
  • It's not that we don't have a climate crisis. We do, and I'm not an advocate for AI. It's just...mankind. It's what I think is going to happen, "wether we like it or not".

The air begins to leak out of the overinflated AI bubble
  • Wether we like it or not AI is here to stay, and in 20-30 years, it’ll be as embedded in our lives as computers and smartphones are now.

  • If you vote for a party that does not support Universal Basic income, that does not make you evil. But if that party also supports killing black people, and you vote for it soley because of Universal Basic income even though it comes with the side-effect of killing black people, you are absolutely evil.

i’m doing it because I want to make the fediverse more friendly place, in hopes of making it more welcoming for new users, and the nicer place in general. But I wonder how much is just less bots.
