  • Well, my sibling lives in another country and I can’t share my library with them because arbitrary restriction. Yay.

    Dear iPhone users:
  • Fun fact: I was tying to be a jerk here! Sometimes it’s just nice to be a bit of an asshole on the internet. Don’t take it personally though. I’m sure you’ve done the same to someone in the past before. It’s just a fact of life. Sorry 🤷‍♂️

    Dear iPhone users:
  • Bluetooth is only flaky when you’re on an Android, though. I put my AirPods in and they just work. Sorry 🤷‍♂️

As He Realized His Mistake, Elon Musk Begged Twitter Staff to Turn Off the New Feature He'd Pushed For
  • Oh yes, they are. Every content creator that’s still on Twitter for some reason complains about how engagement is way down. Many are considering leaving Twitter, if they haven’t already. Of course, some groups still remain for now, but it’s just a matter of time until everyone who isn’t a full on Nazi has left that pile of garbage.

    How do you handle backup?
  • Personally, I back up everything on my NAS except my movie library, because that is something I can relatively easily restore by just downloading buying it again, and because it’s of course the biggest chunk of data. For the other data, I’m using a very affordable Hetzner server auction system with a lot of disks in a striped array. This gives me the maximum amount of storage, and given that I can just create the backup again should the stripe fail, I’m not worried about redundancy on the backup itself.

  • In October, a new sorting mode was introduced: „scaled“

This allows sorting posts based on the size of the community in order to avoid the feed being dominated by large, active communities, and pushing smaller communities. This was one of the main blockers for me to move from Reddit, so I’m glad it’s finally implemented. Therefore, I would love to see this sort option be available in Avelon on supported instances.

    Thanks!
