  • Your statement about China not having a financialist capital class seemed slightly out of touch so I provided you with examples of some Chinese capital class. Communism is when not billionaires. The more Billionaires you have to less communism it is.

As for the imperialism I only hear the same argument as for Western imperialism: someone drew lines on a map 200 years ago and it said Xinjiang and Tibet were part of China. So despite them speaking a different language it's now 100% ours for rizzle.

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis have taken to the streets, fueled by increasing frustration with the Netanyahu government’s handling of captives in Gaza

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis protested across the country on Saturday for the eighth consecutive night with some clashes reported with the police. The demonstrations were ignited on Sunday last week after the bodies of six captives were recovered from the Gaza Strip.

In Tel Aviv, the main site of the protests, organisers reported that over 500,000 people participated. Other significant demonstrations took place in Jerusalem, Haifa, Be'er Sheva, and near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's private residence in Caesarea.

Earlier on Saturday Israel's far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich expressed opposition to a captives-ceasefire deal, even if it allows Israel to maintain a presence on the Egyptian-Gaza border.

Smotrich clarified that he seeks "a deal of surrender," but not one where Israel surrenders by leaving Gaza. Instead, he envisions a scenario where Hamas is forced to disarm and is expelled from Gaza, paving the way for a demilitarised Gaza to be rehabilitated. He has previously advocated for Israel to regain full control of Gaza and restore Jewish settlements there.

I've had two discussions with users about the Uyghur camps which were not able to address the base of my concerns. While they are definitely very exaggerated in size, the notion that they don't exist seems unfounded. Though I'm open for discussion on it.

Invoices confirm the United States funded almost seven tonnes of Israel Defense Forces (IDF) weaponry illegally transported through Irish airspace.

In the past two weeks The Ditch has reported that more than 55 tonnes of Israel-bound munitions were transported through Irish sovereign airspace on six flights from October 2023 to February 2024.

On 27 November 2023, US-based weapons manufacturer Combined Systems issued two invoices to the “Government of Israel” for their purchase of 25,066 units of CS-containing cartridges. The Israel Defense Forces use the cartridges, which cause severe irritation to the eyes, against Palestinians in the West Bank.

The US-funded tear gas, which weighed more than 6.4 tonnes, was transported to Israel on a 1 February, 2024 Challenge Airlines flight, which flew through Irish sovereign airspace on its way to Tel Aviv. No consent was sought to carry these munitions over Irish airspace, according to taoiseach Simon Harris.

it’s not as simple as “the president” or “the party” can just stop a long term international set of contracts across industries and government agencies and departments.

It is called Leahy law, and the current president is actively violating the law by sending weapons to israel which uses them to commit war crimes.

Fact-finding report reveals range of crimes by RSF and Sudanese army, including rape, killings and torture, and calls for arms embargo

Both sides in Sudan's war have committed a range of human rights violations and crimes that may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, a United Nations fact-finding mission has said. That include indiscriminate air strikes and shelling of schools, hospitals, communication networks and water and electricity supplies.

Both parties had targeted civilians in attacks, as well as through rape and other forms of sexual violence, arbitrary detention, torture and ill treatment.

It found reasonable grounds to conclude that the RSF and its allied militias had committed the war crimes of rape, sexual slavery and pillage, in addition to forcibly displacing civilian populations and recruiting children below the age of 15 to partake in hostilities.

The RSF has carried out brutal assaults against non-Arab communities, particularly against the Masalit ethnic community near El Geneina in West Darfur, which has included rape, killings, torture and the destruction of property.

A man in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, India, has died after the driver of a private ambulance took him off of life support and threw him out of the vehicle so he would have the opportunity to rape his wife.

According to The Times of India, the incident occurred late last month after the woman hired the emergency vehicle to escort her, her brother, and her husband home after he was discharged from a hospital in Lucknow due to financial limitations.

Speaking with police, the woman explained that on the way home, the emergency vehicle driver asked her to sit in the front seat next to him to avoid being stopped by police.

“I was forced to sit in the front seat, and then the driver and his companion started molesting me. I objected, but they did not listen to me,” she said, adding that her husband and brother sensed something was wrong and began trying to intervene from the back of the ambulance.

As a result, the men stopped the ambulance near the Chhawani police station, where they “forcibly removed the oxygen mask from [the woman’s] husband and threw him out” of the car before locking her brother in the front and proceeding to molest her.

In addition to sexually assaulting her, the woman also informed police that the men looted over $120 USD from her purse, jewelry, her identification card, and her husband’s hospital reports.

  • There's definitely some users there who go too far in their support for other imperialist superpowers like Russia and China.

Because if America bad Russia and China good is an easy train of thought. Imperialism bad is a more difficult pill to accept.

But users there moreso question whether certain atrocities happened. They're not saying 'yeah the CCP is currently Genociding Uyghurs in concentration camps. but you have to vote for Xi Jingping to save Democracy'.

Occasionally I do find they have a point in the West exaggerating others crimes. I mostly started noticing this after Hamas supposedly beheaded 40 babies in ovens which our media blasted as fact without questioning it. Though other times there is usually a base of truth which is undeniable.

But admitting that your side is doing Genocide and still advocating for them comes off as far more insane to me than denying their crimes.

Artists4Ceasefire, the industry collective that has been pushing for an end to the current war in Gaza (and whose pin badges were worn by various attendees at this year’s Oscars ceremony), is spearheading a new initiative calling for a halt to illegal arms sales to Israel.

Through a partnership with artist Shepard Fairey and several humanitarian organizations — including Oxfam America, ActionAid USA and War Child Alliance/Children in Conflict — the group has launched a call to action bearing the message “Ceasefire Now, Stop Weapons, Save Lives” that urges the halt to what it says are “weapons transfers that violate U.S. and international law.” Such laws state it is illegal to supply or use weapons to commit “grave human rights violations,” including striking schools or hospitals, restricting humanitarian aid, and killing children.

  • AXA, the multi-billionaire dollar insurance company, had been the target of a years-long effort led by Ekō, an international ethical-investing advocacy organization, pressuring it to unwind its holdings in the companies. In August, Ekō published an analysis showing AXA had unwound its previous holdings in Bank Hapoalim, Bank Leumi, and Israel Discount Bank. AXA has also not reinvested in previously held positions in Bank Mizrahi-Tefahot or First International Bank of Israel, two additional targets of the campaign.

The banks were listed in a United Nations database of companies deemed complicit in maintaining the illegal occupation of the West Bank. “Foreign businesses that invest in these banks are complicit in Israeli war crimes,” said Leili Kashani, a senior campaigner at Ekō.

Until September of last year, AXA held 2.5 million shares in the three designated banks, worth around $20.4 million. But by June of this year, the company had effectively zeroed out its holdings, Ekō found. AXA’s portfolio still includes a residual position of 16,290 shares of Bank Leumi stock. Profundo, an independent research organization which contributed to the report, attributed that holding to “reporting and internal accounting delays” and deemed the sell-offs a “full divestment.”

www.middleeasteye.net How Sudan's RSF became a key ally for the UAE’s logistical and corporate interests

Analysts say Abu Dhabi is exploiting the African country's resources at the expense of locals, using Sudanese militias with impunity

Experts and observers argue that part of the UAE's motivation for funding the devastating hostilities is to guarantee its access to Sudanese land, seaports, and mineral and agricultural resources, including livestock and crops.

“The RSF is the UAE’s hand in Sudan,” said Amgad Fareid Eltayeb, an analyst and former senior aide to Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok.

Gulf states’ agricultural investments in Sudan to address food insecurity date back to the 1970s. The UAE imports 90 percent of its food, as water is scarce and little of its land is arable.

Abu Hamad is a massive farming project led by IHC in partnership with Dal Group, Sudan’s largest private company. This project will link the agricultural area to a new Red Sea port, Abu Amama port, constructed and operated by AD Ports Group.

Emirati investments in Sudan, however, have consistently faced resistance from locals due to Abu Dhabi’s refusal to engage in mutually beneficial projects, said Eltayeb.

“The Emiratis preferred to loot the land’s wealth,” he said. “When they failed to land grab, they began to directly colonise, by using the RSF. This happened with the cover of impunity they have from the international community”, Eltayeb, who is currently a fellow with the European Council on Foreign Relations, added.

The United Kingdom has reportedly tried to suppress scrutiny of the UAE's role in Sudan. In June, a report from the Guardian reported that the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) pressured African diplomats not to criticise the UAE.

www.972mag.com ‘This is also America’s war’: Why the U.S. isn’t stopping the Gaza onslaught

Israelis and Palestinians are making a terrible mistake by looking exclusively to Washington to solve their problems, says Daniel Levy.

In her speech at the DNC, Kamala Harris emphasized Israel’s right to defend itself but also spoke about the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, vowing to work so that “the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination.” The audience cheered that sentence more than any other in her whole speech.

I saw two analyses of the speech: for the Israeli news site Ynet, Nadav Eyal wrote that Israel got exactly what it wanted from Harris; the progressive American news site Vox, meanwhile, wrote that Harris presented a different approach to the conflict compared to that of Biden, more supportive of the Palestinians. How do you see her speech?

I think she achieved what she wanted: that both of those kinds of reporting could come out, and that both AIPAC and J Street could endorse it. But if we shift attention to the Palestinian rights movement or the Uncommitted Movement, there is nothing there for them. The way the DNC treated the issue tells you everything you need to know about the ways things aren’t changing — for instance, [the fact there was] no Palestinian speaker or perspective on the stage.

Harris can talk about bad things that have happened to Palestinians, but from her words you wouldn’t know who caused it — a natural disaster? An earthquake? When Hamas does something bad, they are named and shamed; but when bad things happen to Palestinians, there is never any acknowledgement that they are caused by Israel.

www.dropsitenews.com What I Got Wrong About “Shock Therapy”

After witnessing a historic financial collapse in the former Soviet Union, I thought bad advice from Western economists was a root cause. Now I think disaster was the plan all along.

Harvard economist Jeffery Sachs, whose ideas for quickly transforming communist economies to market-based systems were dubbed “shock therapy,” saw his name become synonymous with pain. Though he’d overseen successful reforms in a similar sitution in Poland, fellow Harvard acolytes Yegor Gaidar and Anatoly Chubais had a lot less luck when appointed economic czars in Boris Yeltsin’s Russia. Russians early on associated “shock therapy” with inflation and the removal of public safety nets they’d grown used to in Soviet times (though residents were awarded their apartments as property, and kept a few other important subsides like cheap home energy). I wish I’d taken a picture, but I remember seeing graffiti on an apartment building when visiting the arctic mining town of Vorkuta during the 1998 crisis. It read, ФОК ТЕРАПИЯ: “Fuck Therapy.”

Several weeks ago I heard from fellow Substacker and former Intercept writer Ryan Grim, to whom Sachs had sent a note and an essay. With the professor’s permission he was kind enough to let me read it. I was shocked. The gist of the Sachs essay was not that U.S. economic policies toward Russia were misguided or poorly executed, or even that he’s been misunderstood. Rather he described an American strategy in which economics were subservient at all times — and crucially, from the start — to a security mission. Led by military and security agencies that believed “the cold war never ended,” the U.S. viewed subjugation of Russia and NATO expansion as primary goals from the very beginning. In hindsight, this makes a lot more sense than the conventional wisdom, which is that Bill Clinton, Strobe Talbott and Dick Cheney tried to be friends with Russia, and just made a dog’s breakfast of it.

After Yeltsin was in office in what was now democratic Russia, Sachs thought for sure authorties would change their minds. No go. Here, he describes meeting with former George H.W. Bush Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger after proposing his “Marshall Plan” on TV

Ordinary Russians certainly believed Americans wanted to be their friends. I know this because they wanted to be my friend, throughout the “messy transition” period when people like Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin made exaggerated displays of bro-ship. However, I recall Russian attitudes turning after the bombing of Kosovo in 1999, and especially as NATO began expanding toward Moscow. Most Americans have not heard the story that in negotiations for the dissolution of the Soviet empire, James Baker III promised Eduard Shevardnadze NATO would not “leapfrog” East Germany toward Russia. CIA whistleblower Melvin Goodman confirmed that story to me years ago, and I remember it meant a lot to Russians.

In the telling of Sachs, NATO expansion all the way to Ukraine was a goal from the start. Why not bring in Russia as an imperfect, but more stable and democratic partner? Because “the men in the suits,” as Sachs described the natsec officials behind the White House, never wanted any part of a Russia that retained significant military power, or its own sphere of influence. “They sought and until today seek a unipolar world led by a hegemonic US, in which Russia and other nations will be subservient,” Sachs writes.

    https:// www.washingtonpost.com /technology/2024/09/04/meta-israel-gaza-river-to-sea-hate-speech/

Meta’s company-funded oversight body ruled Wednesday that the social media giant shouldn’t automatically take down posts using the phrase “from the river to the sea,” a decades-old rallying cry for Palestinian nationalism that has reignited a national debate about the boundaries of acceptable speech.

Meta’s Oversight Board, an independent collection of academics, experts and lawyers who oversee thorny content decisions on the platform, said posts they examined using the phrase didn’t violate the company’s rules against hate speech, inciting violence or praising dangerous organizations.

“While [the phrase] can be understood by some as encouraging and legitimizing antisemitism and the violent elimination of Israel and its people, it is also often used as a political call for solidarity, equal rights and self-determination of the Palestinian people, and to end the war in Gaza,” the board said in its ruling.
