Why This Christian Influencer No Longer Goes to Church

  • This is a fair assessment.

I am following the negative news (or the so-called neutral news) because it is all I am getting floated at me. There's a lot of people that expected him to immediately be a stand-out looking ready for the NFL to carry on the Manning legacy, and we haven't seen that, perhaps only because that is an irrational expectation.

I'd like to see Manning become NFL pro bowl material. Why not. That's an interesting story..! But I also can't help but post inflammatory takes on him or Shadeur Sanders or any other rising name in the world of football.

  • If you want to make lots of money, and you are willing to compete in the job market, it's a better place to be than Europe. IT's even the case that the American middle class has far more disposable income than the European middle class. But it's also certainly the case that America faces a lot more crime and it has worse social safety nets.

  • I would emphasize, though, that the rate at which they were previously saying it was changing was alarmist and inaccurate.

Kind of like how they routinely would talk about islands going underwater. I remember in the mid 2000s believing that Maldives would likely go under water, something that the then leader of the country also believed... But it just has not happened, and a lot of the talk about the rate at which it is happening ends up encouraging extreme protest positions that do things which are not warranted, IMO.

  • (Now, keep in mind Terry Hobbs is a good enough suspect for a few reasons, but a lot of that involves the recent ideas about DNA evidence from a hair on a knot. There doesn't seem to be as good of evidence pointing to him as the killer as there was against the WM3, although I understand that it is arguable whether or not that it should get a conviction.)

  • I think even if it is not necessarily true, i at least shows that the police were not so completely biased.

There were no other good suspects at the time other than theoretically Mr. Bojangles and the hitchhiker who were both never identified.

  • All that is true! And these realities should inform a proper understanding of history. Held in a vacuum, however, they obscure the real story.

    Brilliant line - very true.

Everything has to be taken as a whole.

  • I agree with you - it is objectively true that she is an adult and she can make this decision. But let me also say... (and this is long, bear with me...) I also want to say this does not have to be so political, but rather, an observation about how I think it is right to leave people behind...

I think people owe those closest to them with explanations and disclosure of their intentions that will profoundly impact those around them. No, they don't owe ME or the PUBLIC, not at all. It is also not a discussion I should ever be a part of - this person is a stranger, right, it's none of my business...

But putting myself into the shoes of the family members, I feel like it was morally wrong for her to not disclose her intentions and be honest with her family... And hten to give them the false hope she was coming home, only to end her life. Now, of course, she has this right, but I have friends whose fathers abandoned them... I dated a woman who had only spoken to her father once in her life and didn't know it was him at the time - he called her mother to discuss a child support payment, and when she picked up he said, "Oh, is this ____? OK, is your mother there...?"

She was a strong, beautiful, wonderful woman, and yet it'simpossible to deny that her behavior was deeply impacted by growing up without a father who even cared to have ac conversation with her, right...

So, even if it is legal... It is not moral.

It is legal for a landlord to kick out a single mother after a certain amount of unpaid payments, but it is not moral.

And I am not going to say that this very unwell woman who was suffering mentally is evil or even say she is BAD for doing this. She must've been going through hell... But, this was very bad for those important people she left in the lurch.

When my friend's father was dying of cancer, he bought me lunch and we had a beautiful conversation, and I had not been to my hometown for years, and th eman said to me... "This might be the last time, you know, I have cancer," and I said something like, "Oh no, you will make it, don't say that, it's going to be OK..." But he smiled the fox's smile and he said, "Well, it could be the last time, so I just want to say I love you and your friendship with my son, and it has been wonderful if we don't meet again..."

And he did die. But he took the time to say that... I wonder how much he knew he would die... He lived for a year after this... But it stays with you. IDK.

  • Dare I say the reason that I like true crime so much is that it consistently proves that fact is stranger than fiction, and it consistently surpasses what I can even imagine is happening in the world. And in all this, I learn more about human psychology.

  • I think this is all really complicated, though. We have to also consider that most countries practice protectionism and have subsidies and other benefits given to their companies to try to enable them to gain some kind of competitive edge. This is not only because they want to profit from the hard cash inflow of successful industry and major commercial endeavors, but also simply because of the fact that they benefit very much from having greater amounts of their people employed.

One of the ironies about this, too, is how a lot of formerly Communist/Socialist states benefited immensely from their period under a planned economy by having a centralized force bring in the industry and infrastructure necessary to have a superior private market.

I am not saying Capitalism is wrong, per se, I think their descriptions of the free market are generally good... I am just saying that socialism actually also makes a lot of sense for the developing world and for nations that do not have the edge to be competitive internationally.

That's why you see it everywhere and there really is no such thing as a 'free market,' and so designing your economy around a free market is just shooting yourself in the foot.

  • I theorize.... The funeral director woman is very abnormal emotionally and socially and just thought that these were somehow sweet gestures and had no idea regular people are horrified by this. If she was truly a sinister person, I think she'd be aware of how she has to hide this stuff.

She just doesn't understand this situation.

And yes this is truly screwed up. I don't understand how she didn't understand that, either. And I think she needs help.

  • It's certainly problematic because it isn't explicit what the cause was. My conclusion was that she was drugged and suffering cardiac arrest in the bedroom while being violated, and this prompted emergency services to be contacted.

I suppose the journalist is phrasing it all in a very convulated way because the details released are murky. Or it's just shit journalism.

  • There are certainly aspects of a planned economy, which I think is a more accurate way of describing it without calling it socialist.

Protectionism and government ownership of strategic economic assets all make sense, and they are certainly not capitalist in nature.

I support these policies, by the way. They seem necessary.

I also wish that the left was more open to the fact that right wing populism should be cooperated with on some fiscal issues, if only in a limited capacity.
