Colorado teen shot in the face by town councilman after going to home to ask permission to take homecoming photos
  • I think the difference between our positions is that I believe pointing a loaded weapon at someone should be considered as intending to kill that person, at least until evidence and circumstance can determine otherwise. Because aiming a weapon at someone is more than just a threat that you will use it against then, it is taking physical action to prepare to use it against them.

  • If someone got shot, the rest of it is sort of moot, isn't it? Responding to trespassers by pulling out a gun is insane to begin with, if the trespassers aren't doing anything else to imply a threat. Blocking the trespassers from leaving the property is bad enough, but to then threaten then with a gun is horrendous in its own right. Pointing that gun at them is insane unless he intended to shoot them.

If he was shooting targets for practice and had a lapse of judgement and accidentally shot someone, sure, that is a different situation. If you knowingly and intentionally point a gun at someone and "accidentally" shoot them, I don't see how that is any different than intentionally shooting them, other than the timing of when you pull the trigger.

What are the best video games full of references to other media?
  • Final Fantasy XIV has tons of them as well, especially in the side quests and FATEs. The localization teams do a stellar job sprinkling all sorts of references and nods to pop culture.

The most annoying thing about younger people is they c*nsor themselves
  • I disagree with that. Content creators need to adapt to survive with the modern algorithms. Those algorithms are trash and the censorship behind it can eat a fat one, but the creators are just trying to get paid.

Now, bringing that self-censorship into real life, into casual conversation with friends, off of platforms that are monetized... that is what annoys me. Not because they are difficult to read, that's just an evolution of slang, but because it muddies the language and weakens our ability to communicate. "Unalive" instead of suicide or killed makes it seem less serious, less graphic, at least to me. And that's the whole point of why they are using replacements in monetized content, because it is safer, but sometimes language needs to be harsher.

Unlocked, loaded guns more common among parents who give kids firearm lessons
  • Correct! Modern guns are safer to store in the microwave! Be sure to set it to power level 60% for 5 minutes to properly remove any gunpowder residue after you finish using it for the day.

  • The 30 seconds is a buffer between entering the space and spinning, so it doesn't catch you running up. Like if it starts recording as you enter the room, how do you know when it started/stopped recording

What is your favourite board game?
  • Dixit is one of my favorites, and very fun to play with a group of people you know well. Sort of like Pictionary with cards instead of drawing, but you try to only get one person to guess correctly.

Small World was my introduction into alternative board games, and still one of my favorites to help introduce new board games to people who have only played Monopoly.

Startup Says It'll Use Huge Space Mirror to Sell Sunlight During Nighttime
  • I grew up in an area that was fairly dark. Probably somewhere between Bortle class 3 and 4 when I was young.

When I went backpacking in the Rockies, it was like nothing I had ever seen before. The night sky is vast and beautiful, and so full of lights and color. Constellations are hard to make out because there are so many dots to look at, rather than the light being too faint to make out.

    Who does this?!
  • I'm assuming doing a hate crime over what someone else is eating is just a joke, because of course it is. And if you enjoy eating something a certain way and it isn't hurting anyone, go for it! But mustard on watermelon sounds absolutely fucking disgusting.

    I hate people like this
  • "Just kept tossing their hair and looking at me."

Are we sure the employees weren't shaking their heads at the customer and they are just an idiot? I'm also assuming the doors were already locked, or they would have just walked in, and the hours are typically posted on the door. I feel that should be enough of an indication the store is closed. People don't need to have their hands held through everything I life. Expecting a little independence from them isn't being not nice.
