Indiana police have dogs that sniff specifically for cash at the US’s 2nd biggest FedEx hub, then they simply keep the money
  • Do you think the wall behind them has one poorly drawn ‘fundraising goal meter’ with big ticket items on it, like machine gun robot dogs, amwraps, machine gun drones, tanks, next-gen stingray devices, or networked city-wide camera systems so they can spy on their ex-girlfriends; or do you think each officer has their own chart, with smaller, more personal items, like shooting targets of POC and pets, vaguely white supremacist decals for their cars, training sessions on how to manufacture evidence, or discrete GPS tracking, first aid kits, and bruise concealing makeup for their wives?

JD Vance shares vid claiming migrants ate cats, but appears to show grilling poultry
  • Obviously the story about Haitians is fake and racist. The real story is that an American woman did get arrested for torturing, killing, and eating a cat in front of other people in Canton, Ohio, which is about 170 miles (~275 km) from Springfield.
Politifact: Arrest of a Canton, Ohio, woman unrelated to baseless claims about Haitian immigrants in Springfield
    one comment down.

However, my preferred theory is that JD Vance heard that liberals eat pussy, and the random hateful sentiment generator in his head came up with migrants eating cats.

Warming climate putting people at greater risk of kidney disease – study | Researchers are finding heat-related illnesses can also contribute to heart disease and cognitive impairment
  • So they got a group of people who suffer from workplace safety violations at higher rates than other populations, and those work involves industrial chemicals that get used on food, buildings, and lawns, and concluded more study was needed on climate change?

Yeah, sure, and consuming eggs causes high blood pressure amongst smokers.

Editing to add: News stories and studies like this are a misuse of science reporting and science funding. It sets back research, muddies the waters on the real causes of these issues, and treats climate change as if it’s a trivial catch-all where chemical companies can just do bad science to cover for continuing to make unsafe goods.

Florida poll shows Trump leading Harris by just two points
  • I’m not one for political branding , but I’d wear a shirt with that image/ text that says “Shirtless guys on meth riding alligators for Harris”

I think everyone would think I’m on their side.

  • My old car was a Kia. (Don’t hate me. It was 2009, and I was earning $19,000 a year.)

I got a used model that was the one higher than base, that included the deluxe audio package. Basically, it included an aux input and the crappy speakers had metal grills instead of plastic ones.
I spent years trying to figure out why the aux jack never worked, until in 2014 I took apart the insides, and then took it to a dealership to confirm that the factory had installed the standard wiring harness, which didn’t include connectors for the aux jack. They said it would be cheaper to buy a new car than it would be to have them fix the wiring.
I wound up missing the aux roadtrip experience entirely, and replaced the radio with one that did Bluetooth.
    Bastards.

  • But your statement is now relying on skills and equipment that - sure, don’t have that high of a barrier to entry - aren’t within everyone’s skill level, or budget vs storage capacity.

For what it’s worth, I personally wouldn’t go back to wired headphones, but I also want a mic jack because I want to play music to non-Bluetooth stuff and cars I don’t own/don’t trust with my privacy.

  • Keep things actionable.

    • Things you need go where they are useful or where their presence is a reminder not to forget them.
    • When relaying things, it doesn’t need a story if the story isn’t actionable.
    • When planning things, plan out the actions, and leave as much of the rest to the experience as you can, lest you get overwhelmed, frozen, and wind up with no plans.

Common food dye found to make skin and muscle temporarily transparent
  • I like to look up stuff, even if I’m not remotely qualified to understand the results.

Tartrazine induces structural and functional aberrations and genotoxic effects in vivo
Is tartrazine really safe? In silico and ex vivo toxicological studies in human leukocytes: a question of dose

My (thin) grasp of things is that even though it’s a food additive, it’s not heavily studied, and not at higher doses, but the two studies above don’t paint a great picture. And slathering it on your skin is definitely more than you’d come into contact with than what’s needed to color food.
So, yeah - not a parlor trick I’d do to gross out my friends.

Judge Moves Donald Trump’s Sentencing In Hush Money Trial To Nov. 26
  • I hope that’s not the case, but he’s rapidly declining, anyway.
I don’t really care if he’s ever imprisoned, so long as he loses and the cult that follow him and the sociopaths that fund/back him are left without their messiah/useful idiot in a position of power.

Missouri reports human H5-type bird flu case with no link to animals
  • The article I read mentioned this person has co-morbidities. Presumably, that’s why their symptoms are worse/they even got tested. Perhaps this means that it only weakly infects humans (currently, anyway). Hence the lack of prior detection.
I’m sure we’ll start to see more community cases. Hopefully that won’t translate to the virus mutating further in ways that make it more infectious or harmful.

Judge Moves Donald Trump’s Sentencing In Hush Money Trial To Nov. 26
  • I mean. Yeah. There’s only so much planning you can do to contain stupid.

A number of years ago a colleague wanted to download a song for a presentation. The site was blocked by our firewall, so they downloaded it to their phone, and transferred it from their phone to their work computer, then asked for my help to figure out why song.mp3.exe kept flashing a black screen and not playing any music.

Judge Moves Donald Trump’s Sentencing In Hush Money Trial To Nov. 26
  • This is both cowardly and very clever. It’s very strategic.

If trump wins, the sentencing hasn’t hurt his campaign and the case goes away. The Judge’s house doesn’t get doxxed to unstable people.
If Trump loses, his supporters cannot claim interference. But Trump can be sentenced and imprisoned before the next change of power.

    Ugh. Fucking gross.
