New Community Rule: No AI generated content
  • I'll respond to this with what I said to one of the other AI-enthusiast-non-NMS-players commenting here:

I brought up this topic to gauge the general response from members of this community - I absolutely am not interested in discussing AI content as a concept with AI enthusiasts or other people who are not members of this community.

Also, the example you linked is completely unrelated to No Man's Sky. Unsurprisingly. So that doesn't apply here at all.

What are the stats for the Atlas Sceptre?
  • I don't know if by "find" you mean "find on your own", but if not, here are some nice ones I found. The End of Certainty 11F-6 is my love... that glowing red diplo glyph, that circular "magazine" or whatever it is. Beautiful.

What are the stats for the Atlas Sceptre?
  • Voltaic staffs and Sentinel multi-tools have the best damage stats. Atlantid doesn't perform as well in terms of pure damage.

In practice though that doesn't mean much... if you do competitive PVP, you will probably use the Blaze Javelin anyway, and that'll kill an enemy in the same number of shots regardless of what type of multi-tool you use (as long as it's S-Class). It's like a 4? shot kill so, say you have a total of 4000 HP (I'm just making these numbers up to demonstrate the concept) - it doesn't really matter if each shot does 1,100 or 1,300 points of damage, you're still going to kill them in 4 shots. If you do PVE, you'll be able to easily shred any Sentinels with a fully upgraded multi-tool regardless of what type.

That's just my understanding though. I'm not a dataminer so I'm speaking more from experience than knowledge of the actual values or code.

I don't know the specific stats for the Atlas Sceptre but generally Expedition rewards are relatively middle-of-the-road for their category, so I'd expect Atlas Sceptre to perform like an average Voltaic Staff.

BeatByte: Available Music, or How to Make It?
  • If you don't have any actual background in music - I certainly don't - I recommend using the TheoryTab portion of Hooktheory's website. It puts it in a format almost exactly identical to the Bytebeat interface. Some songs don't translate well, but others translate very well.

I can't help you with the Waveform Modulator, though. That one, I just mess around with it until it sounds good... although come to think of it, I know a few actual musicians who take the same approach lol.

I was able to make a really good version of "This is Halloween" from Nightmare Before Christmas. However, I tried making "Happy X-Mas (War is Over)" by John Lennon and it didn't translate very well because the Bytebeat really can't do the jingle-bell noise at all.

The other thing you can use it for is logic. For example, creating a series of scrolling lights (maybe for Christmas lights or an 8bit light display, idk) is much easier when you use a Bytebeat and Bytebeat Switches rather than trying to create logic circuits to accomplish everything.

If we can't tell it's AI, then don't worry about it! (Everyone can always tell.)

It doesn't need to make sense to you. You aren't active in this community. This post was specifically to solicit the opinions of community members, which you are not. Thus your opinion was not solicited and is not desired. (And yes, this is the internet, you can offer it anyway, if you're into wasting your time.)

Judging by this rule announcement receiving an overwhelmingly positive reaction, I think the majority of this community does not share in your bias. "Bad moderating" would be disregarding the actual will of the community.

And on that note, you seem to have never contributed to this, or any other, No Man's Sky community so I'm going to write your opinion off as irrelevant.

I disagree, and judging by the -10 points on the only AI content ever posted here, it seems others do as well. If you find a compelling example of AI content which wouldn't be widely detested, maybe we could make an exemption if the community agrees with you.

    Seems like lazy moderating.

I have no problem being lazy at an unpaid job, so my advice on that front is to suck it up.

Join the Galactic Hub this October for a ton of multiplayer Halloween events! Win both in-game and real-world prizes!
  • Click for Galactic Hub Project Wiki, where you can learn what our civilization is all about

    Introduction

Greetings interlopers, and welcome to HALLOWEEN MONTH, aka HUB MONTH! For those who don’t know, the Galactic Hub was founded on October 30th. This year will mark 8 years of exploring together! Traditionally, we celebrate this by going all-out with Halloween events all month, plus a specifically Hub-focused event on the actual day of Founding Day.

This month’s Halloween activities will feature multiple chances to win prizes, including physical prizes like stickers, pins, or comic books! Halloween-themed Companion Eggs will also be passed out generously all month by Galactic Hub staff - but there’s a limit of 1-egg-per-interloper-per-event, so you’ll have to hit multiple events to collect them all! And of course, many events will present opportunities to earn HubCoin.

Maybe multiplayer events aren’t your thing though. No problem - you can also earn the various Hub Month prizes by completing the Halloween-themed Miskatonic City and/or upcoming Overgrown Isle narratives!

There will also be Star League competitive events every weekend, consisting of the usual multi-tool / starship PVP, starship / exocraft racing, or minigames. This month’s usual New Ziki Monthly Events will largely be canceled to allow Hub staff to focus on our Halloween celebrations, but we’ll still be going to the big city on occasion this month!

With all of that said, here’s the…

    Halloween Month Event Schedule

AT LEAST SIX Opportunities to Win Real-World Prizes!

    • OCT 1st - PUMPKIN PATCH COLONY OPENS - Continuing a Hub tradition, we will be opening an open-build, unlimited-settlement, Halloween-themed colony as the first event of this month. Anyone can build, no need to ask for permission. But try to keep it to some sort of Halloween theme - horror movie, pumpkin patch, giant ghost, or whatever it may be. — PRIZE: Anyone who attends the opening day has a chance to score an Cursed Broomstick egg or Eternal Broomstick egg!

    • OCT 5th - HAUNTED HOUSE COLONY OPENS - The Haunted House Colony is our Halloween colony for more advanced builders. No application is necessary - anyone can build - but we ask interlopers to only join if they’re certain they can create a “haunted house” experience within NMS. Interlopers who participate in the Haunted House Colony should build something which features mazes, logic puzzles, or some other content to challenge the base’s visitors. NMS-RPG content is optional, but encouraged. — PRIZE: Anyone who attends the opening day has a chance to score an Cursed Broomstick egg or Eternal Broomstick egg!

    • OCT 6th - PUMPKIN RACING CUP BEGINS - The Pumpkin Racing Cup is a time-trial based competition, which anyone may complete on their own time and submit via the Time-Trial Racing Cups wiki page. — PRIZE: The winner of each category gets their choice of a Galactic Hub pin, a set of 12 Galactic Hub pogs, or 3 Galactic Hub stickers!

    • OCT 10th - THE RETURN OF WORM LORD OCULUS - See if you can spot Worm Lord Oculus - a giant flying worm with a glowing eyeball - in the skies of the Pumpkin Colony. — PRIZE: Anyone who can secure a screenshot wins 100 HubCoin and a Worm Lord Oculus egg!

    • OCT 12th - CURSED FISHING COLONY OPENS - Following the success of the Uchullom Gamma Fishing Colony, we will be opening a seasonal fishing colony on the haunted planet of Effur Delta. Join us with spooky, sea-themed builds! Note that this is an ungoverned colony but is NOT unlimited settlement, meaning you should only build a base if you see fewer than 26 bases in the system. — PRIZE: Anyone who attends the opening day has a chance to score an Abyssal Horror egg or Child of Helios egg!

    • OCT 12th - OVERGROWN ISLE NMS-RPG NARRATIVE OPENS - This year’s Halloween Narrative will be based on the Cursed Fishing Colony. Surrender to the briney depths, and cling desperately to your sanity - or let go, come what may. — POSSIBLE PRIZES: Wildcard Fauna Voucher (x5) (Select any Halloween Fauna of your choice), 100 HubCoin Voucher, 500 HubCoin Voucher, and/or Physical Prize Voucher (Choice of a Galactic Hub pin, a set of 12 Galactic Hub pogs, or 3 Galactic Hub stickers).

    • OCT 13th - CURSED FISHING TOURNEY - Compete with your fellow interlopers to catch the largest fish of the abyssal depths. — PRIZE: Anyone who attends the opening day has a chance to score an Abyssal Horror egg or Child of Helios egg! The winner gets their choice of a Galactic Hub pin, a set of 12 Galactic Hub pogs, or 3 Galactic Hub stickers!

    • OCT 19th - DECORATE NEW ZIKI CITY FOR HALLOWEEN - This one is pretty self-explanatory. Decorate any participating district for Halloween! Note that most districts have pretty slim complexity budgets, so you may be given a limit on how many items you can place. — PRIZE: Anyone who attends has a chance to score an Bio-Horror egg, a Mini-Fiend Egg, or a Broodling egg!

    • OCT 19th - HALLOWEEN DECORATING AFTERPARTY - Head over to the Museum Cafe (located in Museum of Interloper Art, Art & Events District, New Ziki City) for a variety of Halloween treats, then hit the Lunar Panel Nightclub with a ByteBeat rendition of “This is Halloween” covered by 7101334! — PRIZE: Anyone who attends has a chance to score an Bio-Horror egg, a Mini-Fiend Egg, or a Broodling egg!

    • OCT 20th - TOTOKENN CITY TRICK-OR-TREAT - Haunt the streets of the Hub’s oldest city, Totokenn City! Certain residents will be home at their apartments and ready to pass out treats, in the hope of not falling victim to good-spirited tricks by the costumed interlopers filling the streets. — PRIZE: Anyone who attends the opening day has a chance to score an Bio-Horror egg, a Mini-Fiend Egg, or a Broodling egg!

    • OCT 26th - HAUNTED HOUSE TOURS - Tour the builds of the Haunted House Colony, passing through each attraction with a group of friends! In some cases, the architect - or the resident ghosts - may be around to walk you through the experience. After the tour, a vote for Best Haunted House will open! — PRIZE: Anyone who attends the tour has a chance to score an Eldritch Worm egg or a Worm of Sight egg! The winner of the Best Haunted House vote gets their choice of a Galactic Hub pin, a set of 12 Galactic Hub pogs, or 3 Galactic Hub stickers!

    • OCT 27th - COSTUME CONTEST VOTE & PARTY - The main event of the Halloween Season (aside from Founding Day), the Costume Contest Party will be held at the historic Euclidean Hallows Pumpkin Patch, constructed in 2016. During the party, the vote for Best Costume will begin, concluding 48 hours later. — PRIZE: Anyone who attends the party has a chance to score an Eldritch Worm egg or a Worm of Sight egg! The winner of the Best Costume vote gets their choice of a Galactic Hub pin, a set of 12 Galactic Hub pogs, or 3 Galactic Hub stickers!

    • OCT 30th - FOUNDING DAY PARTY - Celebrate 8 years of Galactic Hub with the community in New Ziki City! The day-long party will include a variety of events, and will be less Halloween-focused than the other events for this month. That doesn’t mean you can’t show up in costume though! — PRIZE: Anyone who attends the party has a chance to score an egg from a historic extinct Galactic Hub species, like the Kesey Beetle or Drogradur NO425 diplo! Competitive event winners will get to choose between a Galactic Hub pin, a set of 12 Galactic Hub pogs, or 3 Galactic Hub stickers!

    • OCT 31st - HAPPY HALLOWEEN! - No official events will be scheduled on Halloween as many people will be out haunting and spooking. If you find yourself around Hub space on this day, jump in Discord Voice Chat and check out the various Halloween-themed locations we’ve visited throughout the month!

    NEW DISCORD EVENT SYSTEM

We're updating our Discord Event system due to Discord making the in-app Event Calendar less prominent! We'll now be using Groupflows bot.

All events will now be posted in the #announcements channel both when the event is initially announced, with a reminder some time (usually 30 minutes) before the event begins.

One other major benefit of this new event system is that certain events can allow people to vote for their preferred time for an event.

This is all being done with the goal of getting our already-excellent events an even larger turnout. So, show up for the Hub next month! Good journeys interlopers!

  • If any significant number of community members are opposed to this, we can discuss it further.

Judging by the reactions to the recently-posted, now-removed NMS AI content, it seems it's generally poorly-received and people (including me) would prefer it not to be featured in this community.

    20

Interlopers! I'm looking for a moderator (or team of mods) to help me run this community! The Galactic Hub keeps me pretty busy, so I feel we need more coverage to ensure this place continues to run as smoothly as it always has.

This community very seldom requires any sort of moderation, much less any sort of nuanced judgement-call, so any users with a frequent history of contribution to this community would be considered.

We do a variety of ball-based sports (not exactly soccer/football though), different PVP games (including some specifically designed to emulate old FPS games like CoD), plus both starship and exocraft racing. As well as a HUGE number of minigames - Shield Wrestling, Exo-Darts (launch your exocraft onto a dart board), Companion Racing, and tons of other games.

I did! Only one type of game though, Clover, which is my pachinko / pinball hybrid created for NMS. I used to have one with 4 different games but the logic circuits broke and tbh the newer one is more fun to actually spend time at anyway.

It's called Caesarus's Palace Casino, after the Caesarus (and obviously Caesar's Palace Casino), which was the largest fauna ever discovered in NMS... and I found it! Sorry, I have to mention that every opportunity I get.

    👾 Introduction 👾

Unification Day is a semi-canon, semi-fanmade holiday, which has historically involved civilizations across the simulation. If you're unfamiliar with the history of Unification Day, you're encouraged to learn more about it here!

This year, Unification Day has been organized as a 28-hour base tour with a variety of activities and social events. That means there is no single "Unification Day System" as in past years. We believe this will provide an ideal format to highlight the builds which civilizations put the most time, effort, and spirit into: those in their home-space claims.

While the holiday is all about celebrating civilized space, Unification Day is not a holiday exclusive to members of civilizations. If you're a lone traveler looking to try out some new activities and meet some new people, you're just as welcome here as anyone else!

    ⏱️ Schedule ⏱️

A current copy of the schedule can be found here. All times are in UTC. Locations will be added soon.

The schedule is still being discussed by the Unification Day Planning Council (the heads / staff of involved civilizations). All scheduled events are subject to change for at least the next week. I'll post any updates in both the Discord server and future Unification Day Reddit posts.

The schedule includes exocraft races, starship PVP, on-foot team deathmatches in a city-sized PVP map, a huge variety of minigames like shield wrestling and a maze escape, art and museum tours, and tons of social events and general base tours. The goal was to represent as many civilizations as possible while also providing the greatest variety of activities as possible.

    ⚠️ Rules ⚠️

All rules apply to both voice chat and regular messages.

    1. No discriminatory, toxic, or otherwise un-fun content. No slurs, no putting down other players' builds (unless constructive criticism is requested), no harassment, no irl politics, etc.
    2. Don't start drama. This is Unification Day, get unified or move on!
    3. No uninvited PVP. (Remember to turn your PVP off outside of events anyway, just to be safe.)
    4. No excessive terrain manipulator use.
    5. No excessively massive pets.

6\. ❗❗❗DO NOT BUILD A BASE IN ANY UNIFICATION DAY SYSTEM WITHOUT CONTACTING THAT CIVILIZATION'S LEADER FIRST.❗❗❗

Uploading bases in any of these systems could result in negative impacts for that civilization, like decreased rendering reliability or even the entire base no longer showing for visitors. These civilizations are trying to provide a fun time for everyone, please respect their space

Another busy year for No Man’s Sky is drawing to a close, and this holiday season we are pleased to revisit our tradition of running remixed editions of this year’s expeditions.

Across the following dates, 2023’s community expeditions will be available once more, taking place in new sections of the universe, offering explorers another opportunity to experience these stories and events and earn exclusive rewards.

PLEASE CONTACT THE GOVERNOR OF ANY COLONY IN HUB SPACE BEFORE UPLOADING A BASE IN THE COLONY SYSTEM. The easiest way to do this is in the corresponding colony channel of the Galactic Hub Discord.

    • Genesis Colony - Genesis is based on the beautiful lush planet of Kansfiel Omega. Players will band together to struggle to survive in the harshest iteration of the simulation known to interloper-kind. Genesis Colony's Sentinel Annihilation Service has also been known to dispatch exploration teams to seek out additional locations in Hub space suitable to Permadeath inhabitation.

    • Asphodel Colony - Asphodel colony focuses on a fantasy theme with heavy influences from Greek mythology. It is a roleplaying colony but this is not essential, we just mean that faction vs faction does not relate to any in-game or real life wars or politics. It is encouraged to create a character backstory of your choosing to fit the narrative and the lore of your chosen faction. In Asphodel, you can let your imagination run wild and allow yourself to play as either your chosen in-game race or take inspiration from the fantasy genre and play as anything you like. Maybe you want to be a witch or a fae? How about a gnome or an ogre? The world is your oyster, we just have one rule for your backstory and that is that we won't allow overpowered backstories, like gods or demi-gods, it just takes away from the overall narrative.

We also have interactions with other civilizations, we're a founding member of the United Federation of Travelers, and much more - but above all else, what really defines the Galactic Hub is our thriving and friendly community. >#The Galactic Hub Project

    >Largest & Oldest Active Civilization

    >11,000+ Player Bases, 75,000+ Subreddit Subscribers, 12,000+ Discord Members

The Galactic Hub Project (r/NMSGalacticHub), founded October 2016, is Euclid's multiplayer hotspot. With a greater concentration of players than anywhere else in No Man's Sky, there's no better location to experience Civilized Space gameplay!

A few of our features include:

    • Chapters - The Galactic Hub has a variety of sub-organizations called Chapters, like the GH Exobiology Corps (focused on fauna), the GH Defense Force (focused on defense & combating griefers), the GH Star League (focused on hosting multiplayer "simulation sports" competitions), & more!

    • Colonies - In the Hub, colonies are communities of multiple players collaborating in some way. This always includes building bases, which are often built under the same theme. Colonies may be as big as a whole system, or as small as a single trade post. The most active colonies are managed by Governors. Governors are interlopers who volunteer to run a colony. A governor's main focus is keeping their colony active - this often involves writing missions or hosting events for their colonists. Some colonies even have Mayors, which manage even smaller communities known as Territories within a Colony. Anyone may set up their own colony in Hub space and act as a Governor!

    • Multiplayer Events - From laid-back Social Nights to the NMS take on eSports Star League, the Galactic Hub has multiplayer social events nearly every week - sometimes multiple each week. Come meet your neighbors!

    • Economy - The GH has its own native currency, HubCoin. It is rewarded exclusively for activity representing the Galactic Hub on various platforms (Reddit, Discord, Wiki, YouTube). HubCoin is never available for sale for dollars, pounds, etc - "real world money" is never required or involved. HubCoin is used to facilitate a metagame economy. For example, to earn coin, players can open their own Businesses with in-game locations in Hub space. To spend coin, players might browse our Discord server's Marketplace and buy goods like custom ships, custom companions, services-of-convenience (ie construction materials), or even 100%-free real-world Hub merch. (Real-world merch availability may vary.)

    • Canonization - Hello Games was kind enough to canonize the Galactic Hub. In other words, we're official in-game content! The "Pilgrim" title can only be unlocked by visiting our old capital planet, New Lennon. Our emblem can be purchased at the QuickSilver store as a base decal or player banner. We're also referenced in the Mission Board and the dialogue of a Traveller, as well as being referenced in the Waking Titan ARG!

That's just a quick look at some of our features. We also have interactions with other civilizations, we're a founding member of the United Federation of Travelers, and much more - but above all else, what really defines the Galactic Hub is our thriving and friendly community. Join us and find your new home in the stars!

HUBTalks are like TEDTalks, but in NMS. These informative lectures on topics relating to science, sci-fi, technology, or No Man's Sky (including comedy or art pertaining to those topics) take place once per month in Galactic Hub space. Usually they are scheduled for the first weekend of every month. Anyone may speak at these events.

For more info or to take place in the next talk, join the Galactic Hub Discord! 🖖🏻

👻 HALLOWEEN HAS COME TO THE GALACTIC HUB 🎃

    🦇🪦 WrittenRealms Link 🪦🦇

You are invited to Miskatonic City, a first-of-its-kind NMS-RPG narrative featuring over 500 lines of original dialogue and 26 NPCs to interact with. (This is a visiting-only system! Please do not drop a base here.)

Venture to the swamps of Miskatonic City, a former logging town now under the influence of a mysterious biotechnical company. Solve the mystery threatening the city and decide the fate of Miskatonic, with multiple quests all converging into the same ultimate decision. Plus a few side quests!

Collect Halloween-themed companions, earn HubCoin, and unlock the location of a new colony as you progress through the city and meet more of its residents.

Join the #miskatonic-city-👻 channel by selecting the 👻 emoji in the #colony-role-select channel of the Galactic Hub Project Discord. This will give you the "Miskatonic City Visitor" role, allowing you to discuss the narrative with other interlopers. Try to avoid spoilers, but anyone reading the #miskatonic-city-👻 channel does so at their own risk!

Please read all of the images in the guide below before starting Miskatonic City.

Aspects of it will probably be confusing to you otherwise.

To avoid any rendering issues and preserve space for possible future NMS-RPG in the system, please do not upload a base anywhere in the Miskatonic City system. We'd love to have you elsewhere in Hub space, and the colony you can unlock through Miskatonic City has room for tons of people!

(NOTE: The post-game is not done yet. Can you tell I'm a real Fallout New Vegas fan? This means after you complete the final mission, the features and conversations unlocked as a result of the quest will not work properly yet. I'm going to try to finish this before anyone gets that far, but we're too far into spooky season to delay launch any longer. 🧛🏻🦇)

Introducing a revolution in cross-base transport: the System for Propulsion via Hazardous Fauna for Aerial Rapid Transit, or the PHFART System. This system, pioneered by Galactic Hub scientists, promises a new era of relaxing, convenient, and safe public transport for our beautiful Hubtropolis of New Ziki City.

The PHFART System enables players to conveniently move between districts of New Ziki City using the propulsive force generated by our all-natural, free-range, wild-grown Gas Pods. Players using the system may experience a brief repulsive smell or the sensation of being kicked in the torso and head. These are normal experiences while using the system, and will pass without harm. Soon you will find yourself peacefully floating through the air, phasing through solid surfaces thanks to our patented persistent-teleportation technology.

Once you reach your destination, you need only stand up to halt your momentum and disembark from the PHFART. If you find yourself above the terrain, you will need to use a jetpack to safely cushion your fall. If you find yourself below the terrain, you will conveniently pop back up through the ground, ready for the day's adventures.

Please take care to board the PHFART System quickly, as the toxic gases given off by the all-natural, free-range, wild-grown Gas Pods may cause discomfort, damage, or fatality after prolonged exposure. Media reports of organ damage after proper use of the FART System have not been verified by Galactic Hub medical professionals. You have nothing to fear while using the PHFART.

The first PHFART System can be found in the Commerce District of New Ziki City, with more planned for construction soon. Our scientists will continue to refine its design to maximize speed, safety, and comfort! Good journeys, interlopers!
